Ok, not exactly sure how to word this? I am an LPN and am studying to be an RN. I am looking at the Navy as a possible option. I also have a Bachelor's degree, but it's not in nursing. It's in Religious Education. Now, could I join the Navy as an officer, or do I still need to enlist? Also, if I do enlist, is there a higher probability that I will be deployed? I would appreciate any input.:)

I would talk with a Navy recruiter for officers only. You may be able to join the Navy as an Chaplain, in the officer Corp. As far as your studies in nursing, are you working on your BSN? There are certain periods (this may be one of them) when the military does accept ADN-RNs. Really, the best thing to do is to contact a recruiter for officers. I hope this helps you. Please post again and let us know what you found out.

Actually, there were times when the Navy took ADNs, they made them warrant officers. Now, they no longer do that. My wife was an ADN when I came back to active duty and they wouldn't even talk to her, she was 3 months from her bachelor's. Once she got her bachelor's they were all over her. The Army accepts nurses with an ADN as enlisted members, not officers. Otherwise, wait till you get your bachelor's and you're good to go or you could come in as a chaplain as stated.

My .02 cents is not to enlist in the Navy if you are currently an LPN, wait till you get your bachelor's. You will be underutilized based on your current training in the Navy as a corpsmen. If you have more questions, please let me know.

Well, an ADN can be a member of the Army Reserve Nurse Corps & an LVN/LPN can be a member of the Army Medical Department on active duty as an enlisted member with the MOS 91WM6. However, an ADN cannot be an enlisted member, at least in the capacity of a 91WM6. An ADN can be a member of the Army Reserve Nurse Corps and get mobilzed to active duty for a period of time.

Confused?

Hi everyone, I have a similar situation, BA in East Asian Studies and Japanese, but am working on my BSN as we speak. I was looking at going Naval Reserve while I finish up school. I would be willing to switch to active Duty once finished with school. Does anyone know how that would work? Especially since I already have a degree? Thanks, in advance, for any help.

Be careful do what you propose, it is not as easy as you think. If you are a member of the reserve and have a contract with them, you will need to either finish that contract with them or get them to release you from your contract in order to go active duty. I found this out when I got out of the Navy and then wanted to come back on. They said if I was in the reserves I would have to get them to release me, since I wasn't, it was easy.
