Specializes in Neuro, Surgical, Trauma and ICU..

Hi,

I am new to this site kind of fell into it. I started off with my BSN but decided to change careers and now have my MSW. I'm currently as Medical Social Worker. I have started the process to get a commission with the Navy as a Navy Social Worker. Since on this side of the medical world we don't have any wonderful sites such as allnurses.com I have found it difficult to communicate with social workers in the military. So for all of the nurses that are in the military have you seen many social workers in the hospital. What do you think of there role? Any other feedback. Thanks:redbeathe:redbeathe

Listen, when my son was wounded down range and MEDVAC to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center I was told he was not likely to live. If it weren't for the ARMY, AIR FORCE NURSES AND THE ARMY SOCIAL WORKER I would have lost it.

Working in the Army Medical Center the Social Workers are just one of the many pillars that keep the MEDCEN together and functioning for our Service men and women and veterans.

Enuff said!

I think being a social worker is a tough job. Just my opinion but sometimes major migraines, lots and lots of red-tape to get around and under and a huge case-load.

Good Luck. Let us know when your Commissioning date is:up:

Hello there SassySailor! Every one is needed in every specialty for service! It is harder being part of a smaller group as far as finding resources like this. It is a great support. This is excellent though..will generate an awareness for your so very important part of the interdisciplinary process for service personnel and their families! I am a civilain FT and Army Reservist (just commissioned yesterday!), and I have to tell you on the civ side we could not exist without our social workers. They are an integral part of our daily operations! Thank you for your service!!!:yeah:

Thank you ladies. Currently I work on a Surgical unit and Surgical ICU with some great nurses. I'm pretty sure the team work we all need is also in the Navy. I'm excited I will keep you all updated on Commission date and camp date!!!
