Hi everyone. I am trying to join the Navy Nurse Corps for FY 2014 (Oct. 2013). I know this is a bit early for a thread like this but I plan on beginning my package in January 2013 to allow maximum time to perfect my application kit. I will be graduating with my BSN May 2013 and plan on taking NCLEX shortly after. I am hoping my kit will be triple checked before I submit it to the board. I am in the process of contacting a healthcare recruiter is San Diego right now and hopefully get stuff moving along. I just wanted to post this thread for others that are also planning on applying for FY2014 commissioning. I will be sharing information as the process goes along so you guys can get an idea of timeframe of events. I know I have been on all these similar threads trolling for answers in the hopes of adequate preparation.. Hope to meet some of you with similar goals soon  Kim

I also am applying for this fy14. I graduated last may with my ADN and started working in a Children's ED in February. I will have my BSN the second week of September with a 3.91 GPA. I was told by my recruiter that unless I don't pass meps physically, then there shouldn't be a reason for them to not pick me up, because I will already have experience where so many others applying for the same slots won't have any or won't even have a license yet. I am almost done with my packet, will go to meps probably in two weeks then send it in. I am hoping and hoping, I want this so badly, and my husband really wants it for me as well.

Vinstafa,

I heard from her today. My physical and credentialing has been approved. Now she is going to check and see if she could submit my packets for signatures. Apparently, this is the last step prior to submission to the board. How about you? Im excited and nervous all at the same time. I've been trying to get back on my training program, but the weather has me on lazy mode.

HRThompson, my husband is the same way. I am taking this time to get my certifications in order especially since VA board of nursing now requires proof of competencies. If you have certifications than they will suffice...at least that's my understanding.

Where are you from?

Specializes in Critical Care.

I haven't talked with him in a few weeks, and probably won't until after my wedding and honeymoon. Sometime in mid-August I will have to change all my paperwork from single to married, and change my security stuff. He did tell me that we would wait until Sept 1 to see if any paperwork has been added or changed for FY 2014. Like I said before and I keep telling him, I just want my kit at the first board.

Vinstafa,

I am right there with you. When the board opens I want my packet to be seen and accepted. For some reason, I have a feeling that I will probably get Bethesda, if I am selected. That wouldn't be a bad thing, but I know ZERO about the area. My recruiter says Aug 1st, if not sooner, we should be submitting for signatures. I think it is at that point they will tell me what rank I will be coming in as. I've been hearing various things, anywhere from O2-O3. I even heard that they could bring me in as an O4 because I have a MSN, but I don't believe that. That is wishful thinking....LoL. Well enjoy your wedding and honeymoon. Marriage is great, when it is with the "ONE". Congrats.

Hello all,

I really want to ask each and every one your reasons behind wanting to join? Please think about why? Are you aware of all the small print, what training is like, the documents you sign, the DNA you give, every move you make being monitored, you are bound 24/7, 365 days a year. Yes, you get wonderful opportunities to do certain things but here what's your motivation? You have at least five different uniforms that you maintain and upkeep generally at our expense. Keep in mind if you get sick, you CAN'T call out....you have to show up to sick call whether you have diarrhea or vomiting. You will get seen but chances are you will get sent back to work. There is no calling out sick. If something should happen to your family don't think you can just up and leave. Are there opportunities, yes, but it doesn't happen on your terms. Trust me you when I tell you that many are experiencing buyers remorse. Please ask to visit where you want to g and ask tons of questions. By the way, funding is not there as well.

If you have any questions let me. I'm not disgruntled just informing.

The honor of serving is worth these sacrifices IMO. I feel the same way about my current job - nurses are always essential staff. Whether it be a global or local disaster, weather emergency, or personal emergency, you're always expected at work (at least where I work!). The call to serve is so strong for me. I welcome the challenges and opportunities that will be available to me. I know it's not always flowers and sunshine, but no job is. It's always important to be aware of the good and the bad. I personally have high hopes and a very positive outlook on all aspects of life, and trust my ability to make the most of it :)

I am 40 years old and wonder how long the process took for you. I have had problems getting in touch with a reruiter and looking for some more info online. Please share your experience so far.

I just completed my packet for FY2014. My recruiter has told me that the NC Program Manager has moved the application submission date to 1OCT2013. Has anyone else heard this?

Specializes in Critical Care.

Yeah, that is what I was told by my recruiter. He told me that in years past, they could submit to the board early, but this year it's 10/1.

That's what I was told also....Oct 1, 2013

How many applicants here who are applying for the October board have 0-2 years of nursing experience? My recruiter said that there are specific spots depending on your experience. He said roughly 10 spots for new grads to 2 years of experience for this year will be open. I don't know how accurate that is but I can only go with what I have been told.
