FY2014 Navy Nurse Corps Direct Accession

Hi everyone. I am trying to join the Navy Nurse Corps for FY 2014 (Oct. 2013). I know this is a bit early for a thread like this but I plan on beginning my package in January 2013 to allow maximum time to perfect my application kit. I will be graduating with my BSN May 2013 and plan on taking NCLEX shortly after. I am hoping my kit will be triple checked before I submit it to the board. I am in the process of contacting a healthcare recruiter is San Diego right now and hopefully get stuff moving along. I just wanted to post this thread for others that are also planning on applying for FY2014 commissioning. I will be sharing information as the process goes along so you guys can get an idea of timeframe of events. I know I have been on all these similar threads trolling for answers in the hopes of adequate preparation.. Hope to meet some of you with similar goals soon  Kim

I'm new to this thread, though reading through the various posts, there were a couple comments regarding: applying to multiple branches at once (Army, Navy, Air Force). I'm interested to hear more about this.

I am a nurse, and am interested in Military nursing. With the cut-backs in all the branches, there are fewer slots, and they are being more selective with their choice of applicants; hence making the whole process more competitive. Applying to the nursing board, whatever the branch, is much like applying for a job, and when job searching it's typical to send out more than one application at one time. In an above post someone made the point that the information given to one branch can fairly easily be transferred over to another branch, seeming to make applying to a couple boards at once easier.

Does anyone know if applying to multiple nursing boards at the same time is done, and if not, then what is the reasoning for not doing this?

I didn't personally do it when I applied, but I agree that it sounds good. From what I've read on this site, the applications for each branch vary considerably. The boards for each branch are held at different times too. I highly doubt there is any way to transfer info between branches. You will likely have to apply to each separately, which will be a huge effort on your part.

It will be more difficult to do, because you probably won't want to let your recruiters know you're applying to other branches. It's hard enough getting in contact with officer recruiters as it is. They won't want to put the man hours into your application if they think for one second you won't accept an offer if it's given to you.

True, the applications do vary from branch to branch, especially when each board meets each year. Also, I can certainly see the recruiter not being thrilled about me applying to another branch, feeling like I'm possibly wasting their time since there's a possibility I may choose a different branch to join. Thank you for your response jfratian.
