I will be having my chief nurse interview pretty soon. Anyone have an advice for the interview? I was given the "new accession interview packet" which has some sample questions and what they score you on. Is there anything else that you all think might help?

Thanks!

Don't worry about it at all. My experience with it was more of a formal information session than a hardcore interview. They will probably ask you a few questions from that list, but it was not a rigorous battery of questions trying to weed you out from other people. They aren't testing you on how much you REALLY know about the air force. They aren't expecting you to regurgitate trivia. They didn't even do the "what would you do in this clinical scenario" thing that a lot of civilian managers do.

Most of it was providing you general info about air force life. Bring a list of your own questions for them...the chief nurse knows vastly more than your recruiter. The LTC I met with actually was a directly commissioned FQ applicant 26 years ago.

Dress nice and come prepared. Don't spend hours memorizing your intended responses, though.

Thank you for your reply, jfratian. I'm glad to hear it wasn't a clinical scenerio or a trivia session. I always get nervous over interviews. I hate the ones where they ask you to tell them about a time you "saved the world." I am not quick with responses to those questions. I spoke with a friend in the Air Force and she said that the chief nurse has great influence on whether or not you're selected. I'm prior enlisted Air force, so I wonder how different the interview could be for me.

I think it depends on the CN that you interview with. During my CN interview, I was asked questions that are common in civilian interviews as well as questions regarding the air force motto and core values. He asked a lot of questions about why I wanted to join, if I had the support of my family and if I was dedicated on keeping the fitness requirements of the air force. I am not sure what interview packet that are you referring to. I never received any packet to prepare me for my CN interview. It was recommended to me to wear a suit, low heels and hair up if you are a female.

Thank you to @dreaming1007 for the PM it was super useful. I can't PM back yet because I don't have 15 posts. But if you can send me your email that would be great :)

I'm an inexperienced nurse as well and was just wondering if anyone knows how many slots are available for new nurses with these boards. I submitted my packet for the August selection and all my recruiter tells me is "it's impossible to know" and "wait". I'm good at the waiting part but I'm also anxious to know about how much competition I have. Any ideas? I heard the number 30 but that seems really low for a once a year selection.

Because of the sequester, the slots have been cut for NTP as well as fully qualified. My recruiter explained in Jan when we submitted my app that the positions were almost cut in half for this fiscal year. The board that you are referring to was supposed to be in May and was canceled. I don't know the exact number but if you don't get in but get an alternate it is better than being told no. I currently am an alternate waiting to hear and my recruiter said that it is a good thing that I got that instead of a no. I would keep a positive mind set and prepare for the PAT.

I'm a Civil Service Nurse at a USAF base and have considered the idea of joining. I asked our Chief Nurse if there would be an open positions at my current location (my husband is Active Duty AF). For the NTP she said there are 30 positions with over 200 applicants for the AF Nurse Core. Not quite sure why she gave me NTP info because I would be coming in as FQ. My recruiter I've been speaking to confirmed her numbers. He told me for FQ there are 38 clinical nurse and 2 OB for FY2014. Just passing on info...
