I am still in the infancy stages of research and I haven't talked to a recruiter yet. I wil start researching after I know whether or not the following skeletons are going to pose a problem should I decide to join.....

I am 30 years old and thinking about joining the millitary (not sure what branch at this point). When I was 17, I was arrested for marijuanna possession. However, the charges were dropped. Do you think that this will become an issue?

Also, I have a GED and not a HS diploma. I am a RN with an ADN and will have my BSN in 1 year. My brother thinks that most branches will not accept anyone with a GED, no matter how much college they have?

Raindrop, your record will not affect your entering into the military since you were a juvenile. But it should be disclosed to your recruiter and he/she will tell you what step to take next. They usually have waivers for felons and since you werent even convicted, I dont think it is a big deal at all. I have a GED, was a 91WM6 (LPN) in the Army and now I am an RN.

You have two options

1.) Since your an RN with an ADN you can enter the Army as a 2LT with the US Army Reserves, finish your degree and then transfer to Active Duty as an Officer.

2.) Wait til you finish your BSN and then enter as an Active Duty Officer.

Either way you are an Officer, it just depends if you would like to become one earlier or not.

Good luck!! :monkeydance:

Raindrop,

Here is a heads up. I too was arrested as a minor for drunk in public and the charges were dropped. I disclosed this to my recruiter as I was told too. I am now an AE in the Navy. After almost two years of service I recieved papers notifying me that they wanted to take my security clearance away due in part to my prior arrest. I have had to write letters to all kinds of places explaining my actions and now after almost six months still haven't heard back from them. It has been a huge stress.:o
