Confused about AF reserve nursing jobs

  1. 0
I am interested in the Air Force reserve, but am confused about what jobs are available.
I talked with a recruiter and they said that they have flight, critical care, and staging nursing positions. How do you know what job you will get if you join? Or is it just dependent on the needs of the Air Force at that time?

It will depend upon your experience level. You won't be considered for flight without ER or critical care experience. Critical care requires critical care experience. Not sure about staging positions. There are also clinical nurses (i.e med surg/tele nurses).

According to what I've been told, Flight RNs can get the job without critical care experience. Basically you are a floor clinical RN who happens to work in an aircraft on air-evac missions. Critical care experience is required for CCATT (Critical Care Air Transport Team) slots but not for general flight nursing. Not every aeromedevac mission requires critical care. I'm a USAF RN with four years back on active duty and I just completed a six month temporary duty assignment at a contingency aeromedical staging facility, where I worked closely with the flight transport crews.
