Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

I too will be going to Fort Sill. I have a friend that lived there and he really liked it, so I am going with an open mind. I am a less than 2 years experience nurse. I missed going to a MEDCEN because I will have 8 months experience as a nurse when I go to BOLC on 14 March. I am a prior service combat medic with 1-22 infantry. I definitely don't mind helping some of you get squared away once we are at BOLC. I think BOLC will be fun.

Awesome, My wife will be heading to Sill June 6. She tends to be very quiet, but maybe BOLC will kick that out of her. The time I stayed at Lawton in 2001 was awful. Of course it was for my basic and AIT, but even on the weekends we had off in AIT, there was really nothing that I ever found to do. I guess with children of my own now the trails and hiking will be fun though. Good luck throughout BOLC.

That is not very encouraging. I really hope they fix this

For a second I thought you were talking about the cockroach. I was like, dude! It's Texas. LOL

That same person you referenced was the one who told me that I should have gotten 6 mos credit for the CEN ... not sure he's right about that. But whatever. As long as I got the ISP (and he WAS right about that), then I'm happy. I almost took the accession bonus of $30K, which would have made me ineligible for the ISP. Big difference. As that person told me, "$80K is much bigger than $30K." Yes indeed!

I do not think they offer either now. My wife was able to get the precision course and the loan repayment. Was told allother bonueses were gone unless you have the 8a or ER identifier

I totally depended on my prior service peeps to get me squared away at BOLC! Very helpful, and you will be much appreciated. :) BOLC was fun. The days could drag a bit with the whole "death by PowerPoint" thing, but really, it was pretty painless. There will be people who are NOT prepared for daily PT at 0500, or who aren't prepared to get muddy and dirty and smelly at Camp Bullis, but they'll get over it! No choice. LOL

Interesting ... that must have been a recent change because the last thing I saw was that 66Hs were eligible for the ISP. I haven't been paying close attention, though, since I already got my ISP.

This was the lastest I saw: https://hr.mods.army.mil/SpecialPay/Documents/RNISPFAQs 20100628.pdf

I am gonna have to ask her to look into it. Basically I think alot of those things were around, but just before the board they held back a bunch of cv's because the bonuses were pulled for 66h and alot of other things were yanked. sucks.

Lunah, to be clear can you explain exactly what the ISP is, and did you have that in your contract first?

From what I understand the ISP, is the same as the course guarantee. And you do get $80k still when you pass the course and your exam. The only courses eligible for the $80k are CC/ICU, OR, OB, or psych. They kept this bonus intact to help retain the nurses. I have the course guarantee in my contract. Hope this helps

Lizzardmommy,I got stationed at Fort Gordon too! I am a new grad nurse so I will be on a med surg floor for the first year. Can't wait to meet you! And work with you :)

She has the course guarantee the CC one, but we heard nothing about the ISP.

Off topic RIP Chris Kyle, brother in arms taken way too soon. What a waste of an awesome human being
