Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Specialties Government

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

I hope it goes the way you want it to go. They are gonna post date her commission? I actually swore in May 15 but it was postdated till 3 days before my OBC date in July, my pay didn't start till then.

I am sure she wouldnt be getting paid at all. I am thinking her TiS will start on her report date.

Hey Everyone!

I received a phone call from my recruiter yesterday stating that I was scrolled and that I got the official OK to go ahead with the process. Needless to say I was beyond excited and rushed over to the recruiter's office to sign my contract and letter of intent. Now, the only thing I am waiting on is my orders!!!!

While I was there my recruiter informed me that there have been some changes to the process. First off, your recruiter no longer commissions you, the letter of intent replaces that, and instead you only do the official commissioning at BOLC. Second, if anyone was accepted into the critical care course (or any other course), apparently it does not happen right after BOLC like it used to. Instead, they evaluate you for the first 6 months to see if you are a good fit for that course. If they think you are a good fit, then you will be sent after your 6 month evaluation. I have seen some conflicting information on here about some of this information. This is just what I was told yesterday, whether it is true I do not know, it is just what was told to me.

Good Luck to everyone, and Merry Christmas!!!!

This could very well be true, we will not be speaking with the recruiter until wednesday or thursday. I would suck if she did not get, what was offered to her as an enticement to join, but that is the Army lol. She will still be happy to start serving the country, so we are full speed ahead.

When you swear in the first time it is into the Inactive Reserves and the 2nd time which is upto 72 hours before you go on active duty is your active commission. When I switched from the Reserves to Active I had to take my oath again when I went on active duty. You will not be paid while you are in the inactive status.

Yeah I was basically saying of course she wouldnt get paid, she isnt actively serving, that this was just a sort of swearing in type of deal.and contract signing and lette rof intent.

I have a question Jeck, My wife was awarded 2 1/2 years constructive credit and is commissioning as a 1st LT. 30 months. So. I know the cutoff for captain is around 42 months, Does this mean she could be eligible around 1 year after being on active duty for her promotion or is there a 42 month TiS requirement to be promoted. Just wondering, that pay increase would help alot if this were the case lol.

TL;DR- basically she will have 30 months time in grade, will she be eligible for captain at the 42 month mark or is there a TiS requirement.

I wonder if this is because you are a new grad, or if this goes for all nurses no matter the experience?

Merry Xmas and happy holidays to everyone,

I am also waiting for scrolling like many of you all here. Being enlisted and 3 months from PCSing, has made my case little complicated. I have a PCS order to Korea for 16 Mar 2013. If i PCS to Korea, i have to fulfill the minimum time requirement, which will delay my OCS. So right now i am in the process of putting in request for deletion of my order to Korea. I have already talked to my command. They know about my situation. I have also talked to the MPD, and my retention NCO about this issue. I have come up to the conclusion to put in 4187 for the first termer statement after talking to the MPD and my retention NCO. When I talked to my retention NCO, he said it will delete my orders and will not affect me negatively. It will just delete my orders. This is just the worst case scenario i am thinking ( which is if i do not get my scroll and orders to OBC before March). I will have that 4187 ready by next week and sent to the commander. Once it is signed i have to take it to the MPD and they should be able to delete the order.

I am just praying that everything comes back before that time. Also, one my my biggest question is, What are the next OBC dates? I heard one is in january and the other one is in march. When in March is the exact OBC dates? Does anybody know about the first termer statement? I found that it was the best and fastest route for the deletion of orders. Or am i just panicking too much? Any advices ..

I believe the March BOLC class runs from March 14th - May 6th, and the next one after that is July 15 - Sept. 5th.

If you aren't prior service, make sure you are enrolled in pre-BOLC..... report date march 1 or so...

Haven't heard boo from anyone and I am sure I won't till after the holiday. Wonder what the hold up is ? Makes me nervous. Even March is coming fast though! I am ready now except I am going to miss all my little ones for all those weeks. Very excited! For those of you commissioning are you starting to buy your uniforms? Will packing lists come with our orders? How many taking the pre course?

My wife has bought a lot of the stuff, mainly acu stuff. Pants, tshirts, pc, beret(to get shaved and shaped), boots, and PTS. You will get a packing list though. Your recruiter can take you on post and buy some uniform stuff, that you are not comfy with buying online or at military surplus type stores. I think my wife will skip the precourse, so she can spend as much time with family as possible before she leaves. You will probably hear something when your recruiter is back from the holidays I am sure. If you noticed the day after congress approved the defense budget everyone started getting phone calls. lol.

When it comes to buying ACU items do not go overboard and buy alot since they will be replaced soon. The new uniform should be announced any time. The rumor on the street is that it will be what the Marines are wearing, nothing offical thou.
