Any Army 91C's (now 68W-M6) in the house? I successfully challenged the board (RN-NCLEX) in 93 in West Virginia and am finally completing my BSN from Excelsior College (December 8th!).

Independent duty Navy Corpsmen and 7 skill level Air Forcemedics also qualify. West Virginia Code30-24-2. Qualification for examination for license as a registered professional nurse. Any person who has served on active duty in the medical corps of any of the armed forces of the United States and who has successfully-completed the course of instruction required to qualify him for rating as a medical specialist advanced, medical service technician or advanced hospital corpsman technician, or other equivalent rating in his particular branch of the armed forces, and whose service in the armed forces was under honorable conditions, may submit to the West Virginia board of examiners for registered professional nurses, a photostatic copy of the certificate issued to him certifying successful completion of such course of instruction, a photostatic copy of his discharge from the armed forces, an application for a license as registered professional nurse and the prescribed license fee.

Your message is very difficult to read. From what I gather you challenged the RN NCLEX in West Virginia based on your experience as a military medic. That is very interesting. I challenged the LVN NCLEX in California based on being an army medic. They did the Wisconsin LPN to RN program in 9 months. I am eligible for a license in any state.

Are you eligible for licensure in any other state?

Yes I did. I am licensed in the State of West Virginia as an RN.

I am almost done with my BSN (December 8th) from Excelsior College.

I have not checked to see if I am eligible in any other state. When I am done with my BSN I am sure I will be.

*** I wouldn't be so sure. Many states look at your INITIAL nursing education when determining eligibility for a license.

For example nurses licensed through Excelsior's ADN program are not eligible in some sates, including California regardless of what other education they obtain.

I still think it's pretty cool you can challenge the NCLEX in WV. I had heard that but never knew anyone who did it.

I know the old 91-C LPN training programs where superb. I know several nurses who did that and all tell me they didn't learn a thing in their civilian LPN to RN programs.

I have a fullunrestricted license as an RN - I initially received RN licensure after passing the NCLEX RN in West Virginia in 1993 as a military candidate in accordance with West Virginia Code30-24-2.

I have completed a Bachelor of Science Degree from ExcelsiorCollege (an NLN center for excellence in nursing education) and my degree willbe conferred 01/17/2014. I am eligible forendorsement from the Ohio Board of Nursing as an RN?

I don't understand. Was there some doubt that you would not be able to get a license in at least some other states?

I still don't think you could be licensed in California. However I think what you did was smart as hell and admire you for finding and making use of that path to nursing.

I was not sure because of the rumors and stuff I heard onthe net. It is good to get input frompeers, friends and colleagues but it is always best to go to the source.

Thank you for your kind words; it has been a long journey that has come full circle. I might consider trying to get back into the reserves if they'd take an old soldier back, not sure what the age cut-off is these days.
