Air Force made me mad!!!

The Air Force told me that I could ship out on 04/20/04 for 4n031 (Medic) Training. They knew that I was scheduled to go to LVN school on 04/05/04. I kept asking if I needed to call the school and let them know. They kept saying no..not yet ..let us work out the details. I am supposed to start LVN school on Monday. My recruiter called and I told him that I was talking to the school. He got mad at me and asked why did I not do it before. I said because you kept telling me to wait. I told him that I could not wait until it is the day before I am supposed to be at school and tell them I am not coming. He got mad and said I set all this stuff up for you. Truth is I am not getting half the stuff he said that I would get anyway. He is the one who kept saying wait. If I am locked into my loans ..I am going to LVN school. I am going to get what I paid for. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I am not officially in the Air Force.

sigh......

Trina,

Your recruiter might be understandably upset if you back out of enlistment at the last minute.....but there's little he can do about it if you haven't sworn an oath or signed on the line. He should know this and should have cut you loose immediately. However, recruiters have quotas to fill. The armed forces needs people. Anything beyond a concerned phonecall may well be harassment and the military has very little tolerance for that anymore.

You do need to understand that joining the airforce is a serious commitment. You should not even bother talking to a recruiter for any service unless you're serious about signing up. You must understand that if you sign on as a medic, you will be bound to honor the responsibilities of being a medic. Not going to school to be an LVN. It's either/or. While there are programs out there that let you go to school while you're enlisted, that depends on a variety of factors and each service has it's own requirements and in the meantime, you must serve your obligation as a medic.

Secondly, why go to school as an LVN? Might as well go to school and get your BSN and become an officer. Much better.

I can understand that. I also undestand all the work that goes into getting things ready for a recruit. I have and had every intention of going into the military. And like I told my recruiter, I will go into the military. It is a fact. I like the advantage that it gives. The whole reason that I was moved up on the waiting list for LVN school is because of the military. Also, I did not watch some commercial yesterday and said " Hey, I want to join the military". I know how serious it is. I have been thinking about this for years. I know there are programs that let you go to school before reporting to basic training. There are a variety of different programs. If you do not call a recruiter you will not know about them. Example: The college first program and that is only one. I am not going into anything without doing research. I have every intention of getting my BSN, however the MGI BIll would help alot. I also have a cosiderable amount of money saved for my education. There are a variety of distance learning programs that I have already researched. Thank you for your reply.

Also if you notice. I was not backing out of anything. I get 11,000 dollars when I sign a military contract and I have until May 1st to do?

I think AF life is best....we get better housing and treated better than our army counterparts, at least. I know, I have been stationed next to or very near army posts everywhere we have gone. The proof was always crystal clear...and it's not fair!

I have that heard that many times. I am going Air Force :-)

Yea.. after his little episode my boyfriend does not want him coming over here.:nono: I am not sure what to think of him now, but I do not want to talk to him after that.:chair: He always questioning me about where I have been. "I left a message on your machine. Did you get it? Where were you? Why didn't you call back? Why didn't you call me on my cell phone?" It is really weird:uhoh21:

You need to talk to his boss about that behavior. It's unprofessional and undisciplined and it needs to stop. Go to LVN school and get a little experince under your belt and then reaply to the AF - and use a diff Recruiter:uhoh21:
