Mylanta For Nausea?

Well this is week the nursing home in which I practice held a Nurses meeting and informed all off us floor nurses that some of the standing orders were changing. One of which that really had me puzzled was the change from Phenergan 25mg every 6 hours for N&V to Mylanta 30ml q4hrs PRN for nausea. I found this odd because I never knew that Mylanta was used for nausea. Thought it was an antacid for heartburn like and acid ingestion type S/S or even gas, but nausea ? Any LTC Nurses out there seen this used at the facility you practice for nausea?

Phenergan is not a good med for older people since it can cause sedation. Compazine is classified as a sedative/hypnotic which isn't good. Mylanta has fewer side effects. My favorite treatment for nausea is flat ginger ale. Inexpensive and no side effects.
