I hope this comes through. I am new at this. I have been an LPN now for 8 1/2 yrs. I have been a urology nurse for those years. I have decided to move on and have interviewed at a Rehab ctr. Its also a LTC facility. I am pretty sure I have the job if I want it. I am excited to begin but very scared. Scared because I limited myself to only urology since becoming a nurse. I have been reviewing everything like meds, care plans etc. If anyone has any advise for me, I would really appreciate the advise. Thanks:mad:

Hi! What kind advise do you need? "Do it good for you" about? Or something special, professional? I work in Nursing home and would like to work in rehab. snt., that is realy nursing, I like it.

Hi, Thanks for replying. I was very concerned about going into a more acute setting as I had limited myself to urology only. Sinse my post I ran into an old friend that I once worked with (she now works at this facility I will be going to) I was able to ask her more about the facililty. (things I should have asked during my interview) What I found out. (you should also know that I did 2 rotations at this facility when in school for my lpn) Anyway. No care plans...there is a dept for that. I was worried about my math skills, she says she hasnt had to do any math there. That they have everything printed out there and have a direct line to the pharmacy. ( I am still reviewing my math though) I was also worried about pt/nurse ratio. Get this, she only has 12 pts. There were other worries but she put them all to rest. I have ordered a few books to review things with and everything is coming right back so I was worried for nothing evidently. I am really looking forward to this new job. It sounds like they all work great as a team. I was told it is stressful but a good stress and that everyone works together and laughs alot. That was all I needed to know. I have also been reading many threads on this site and have been able to review so much. This is the greatest site and am glad I stumbled upon it. Thank you so much for responding. Have a glorious day. :)

CONGRATULATIONS on your new job!!!!

I'm glad you are excited now, somehow the "unknown" is always more alarming than the known...

Welcome to Allnurses, I'm sure you are going to be a great resource for all those student LPNs out there!!!! :)

It has been my experience as a 26 year veteran LPN, that all you have to do to be a good LTC or geriatric nurse is to turn the initials around to TLC...tender loving care. Treat your residents as you would have your family member treated and you can't go wrong. It is sad to say but so true in our society that you will be considered family to some of your residents because they have none of their own or have been "forgotten" by their true family. Hang in there! LTC nursing can be very rewarding.:)

Yes, that is must be general line in our work! I answered once to question:"How I can be good nurce?" exactly with your words! Nice to meet you!

That is the part that is easy for me. I became a nurse because I have alot of TLC to give. When I can ease someones fears or make them feel more comfortable, when I can be there for that lonely person well, It's what makes me want to get up each and every day to go to work....to make a difference in someones day. Its what makes me strive to be the best nurse I can be. Isnt that why we all do this? I am sure it will be very rewarding. :) thanks
