New grad nurse training

I would like to get some advice on hospitals in the Atlanta area that offer good training for new grad nurses. I am nervous about making the transition from the school to the clinical environment. While we've had clinicals, I still don't feel confident about my nursing clinical skills. I want to make sure I will be somewhere that will offer training and support. I will be graduating from an ASN program in May of 2009 and I've already started filling out applications and applying to positions.

I was also wondering how difficult it will be to find a good job with so many new grad nurses graduating at the same time.

I believe Emory has a good new grad program...competitive, but good. Another good one I have heard of is Northside. If your last semester of your program is anything like mine, you will get more confident. You'll learn a lot and get a lot more independence and practice. I'm starting a new grad program in GA, not in Atlanta though, next week. I feel more confident, but, like you, still feel like I need a little more practice transitioning completely to the bedside.

Its never too early, I'm trying to get applications together now over my Christmas break. Some have positions available now.

No, it's not too early to apply for May/June graduates. Especially for those hard to get/everybody wants positions. I graduate in June, and have been applying to hospitals since the beginning of December. I'm in Cincinnati, but I already have a PICU interview set up at the children's hospital in my area for later this month. Get started...it can't hurt you.

I think they all do in the Atlanta area. New Grad Residency programs are becoming quite common but the slots fill up quick so if you wait until you graduate then your already too late.

Not at all!! In fact this is the time to start applying...don't wait until you graduate...your too late by then.
