GSU accelerated... with 2 kids?

Has anyone gone through the GSU accelerated program with children? By the time I start the program my son will be 5 1/2 and in kindergarten and my youngest will be 2 years and 3 months. I just live to far away to drive downtown for the traditional program of 3 yrs. My #1 choice is Kennesaw and I have applied to their program for next summer. But I am working on getting my backups in place. I decided I really only want to do a BSN program and that doesn't leave a lot of affordable choices. Is this doable? Thanks!

Hi Robinelli!

I thought I should post this link. https://allnurses.com/georgia-nurses/ga-state-accelerated-427340.html A current student in the program gave some information about what the schedule is like... I hope this helps.

Hey Robinelli,

It's doable. I'm due to graduate in December, and I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 5 week old. I actually had the baby during this last semester, and it was fine. During the first semester, you'll feel like you want to die and you won't be able to do it, but if you can just make it through that semester then the following semesters are so much easier. The only problem you may run in to is having to be at clinicals at 6:30 am and childcare. If your husband (or SO) can take the kids to daycare and pick them up, you'll be fine. You can do it. Tough, but it goes so fast. Let me know if you have any questions.

Awesome, thank you so much, Jennie! I really appreciate it. It's good to know someone who has BTDT!

I know, huh?! Good luck with your apps. I'm sure you'll do great.

Thanks, I wish they were still taking the NET for the Fall. I did a lot better on that than I did on the TEAS!

Robinelli, what happened to GPC? Are you not joining us in the spring?

No, I declined my spot. I decided I really wanted to try to get into a BSN program before accepting a spot in an ADN. I hadn't even applied yet the a BSN program when I got my acceptance at GPC. I did ask GPC to consider me for the Fall though as a backup if I don't get into a BSN program. I put my application in for Kennesaw Summer 2010 entrance and I hope to get in there. My backup plans are Mercer or Georgia State for BSNs and my backups to those are ADN programs at GPC and NGCSU. I really hope I get into the BSN program in the summer though or I'll be really dissapointed in myself for turning down GPC. I keep questioning myself if it was the right decision. I really want to be a nurse! But I know I want to go on to get my masters so I did not want to do ADN and then have to do the bridge to BSN before I could go on for my masters. It just extended my ultimate goal of becoming an NP by about 1 year. I hope you love the program though! Please kep me posted about it!

Congrats on your decision to pursue the BSN. I would also like to be a NP someday and went through the same decision making process. Hopefully you hear from KSU soon and don't need your back-up plans!

Thank you so much!

Robinelli,

Hi,

I am glad you posted this... I am very lost and confused. I am currently enrolled at GPC working on pre-req's and my ultimate goal is NP. I recently read that in 2015 the rules/regulations to test for NP will change from MSN to Doctorate in Nursing. This is very discouraging for me because I do not think I can finish school in time and complete 2 years of required critical care RN experience before 2015... anyway...

I am writing you because of what you mentioned about what you say before

"But I know I want to go on to get my masters so I did not want to do ADN and then have to do the bridge to BSN before I could go on for my masters. It just extended my ultimate goal of becoming an NP by about 1 year." I did NOT realize that this route would waist a whole year! I am freaking out a little bit. I am a single mother of an 11 year old daughter, and I'm 33. This is my dream, and my second career. Needless to say I do not have a year to throw away.

I would love to know anything else you know about this information or if you know any links to information.

Thanks so much for any help!!!

Just go to the schools you want to attend and look at the different programs, time for completion, credits required for each, application deadlines, and you will figure out how your particular schools work.
