Anyone applied to the nursing program for this fall?

Our App deadline was 2/28, and the deadline for our references was 3/15. I have really good references so I hope they really count those.

What irks me is that these losers who cheat and dont come to class are making someone a little less smart but better qualified to lose out on the opportunity to get into nursing school. So from what I understand, or have heard through rumors is that there have been a number of people in this years new class that have already dropped out ir kicked out b/c they were too immature or didn't understand the commitment. Does that hold any truth??

No, that's not true. There are a couple of people that have been let go from the program but not for being immature or not understanding the commitment. There were different reasons. A few people didn't make it to this semester though because of pharmacology.

I have a really weird question...At what point did you have to have a physical for the program (thats not the weird question...)? The reason I ask is I was wondering if as a prospective nurse you had to meet some kind of physical criteria...like if a student was morbidly obese (like 400-500 lbs), would they be considered for the program? Could they turn you down for that?

After you get an acceptance letter in May, you have to have you physical paperwork turned in by the end of June I think. I think you have to be able to lift fifty pounds and be cleared to be on your feet for extended periods of time. If a person was morbidly obese, the physical would show that they would have difficulty with standing for long periods of time, which is required during clinicals and as a nurse. I think it would be probably be a deal-breaker for sure.

Do you mind me asking why?

I know someone. She has a 4.0. I would venture to guess that she is atleast 450-500 pounds. I was overweight at one time (90 lbs. but lost it all 3 years ago :-)) and I know how taxing just that much weight is on your body, much less several hundred extra pounds. I just don't see how she could effectively move around a bedside, operating room etc. without being a hazard to herself or others. She is sure to get in with grades alone, I am just curious how the physical aspect of it comes into play. I hope this doesn't come off as sounding mean or insensitive, but I don't see how that couldn't be an issue...

Well it most definitely will be an issue.

That was my thinking...but to let that person complete all of their pre-reqs for nursing without warning them that size alone could easily eliminate them seems kinda horrible. I guess we will see how it works out.

Hi,

You shouldn't have any problem getting in. I applied for the fall 2011 class also. My gpa is 3.5 and I got a 95% on the Hesi. My advisor told me that I wouldn't have any problem getting in, so you shouldn't either. As for the weight issue, I don't think csu is very up front with people about actual chances/challenges related to being accepted into the nursing program. Some people from my pre-req classes have very low gpa's and are thinking that they are going to get in for sure. I don't think csu is "leading them on", they just don't give out much information. I was suprised that a confirmation email was not sent out from csu when they recieved your application and references.

By the way, did anyone else apply for fall 2011?

When you say low GPA...how low do you mean? I still feel so doubtful i will get in even though my advisor says i will. The wait is a killer. What classes are you taking this semester? I contacted mrs.conklin to make sure everything for me had been recvd and it had

As for the overweight person...seems like she couls sue the school if.they dont let her in...i dont know o am sure they have dealt with.this.before

They had below a 3.0...except for one girl who had a 3.0. You have to have a 2.75 to apply. I don't have any classes this semester, but I'm taking A&P II over the summer. I just couldn't stand to take it this semester with dr. z......Another teacher is teaching it over the summer. The wait is sooooo killing me too. I know what you mean about getting in though. I went to the office to check if my references got there and she pulled out this monster stack of applications! I almost panicked! I know my advisor ms warden was saying don't sweat it but it really kills you not knowing what the cut off is going to be. I'm trying to find out who else applied to see kinda where I stand in the group. lol

Well she was telling me not to sweat it when my gpa was horribly low! Las year the lowest was 3.2 and the year before.that was 3.11! I feel like this year it is gonna shoot thru the roof...and then i wonder if they let in who they WANT in if u know what i mean!

i do love my advisor though! She is a trip. I do know post-bach people with 4.0's so be on the lookout for.them! Lol

I got my acceptance letter yesterday!
