Is your nursing school secretive?

It seems like my program is secretive. We students never feel like we have an idea of things to come and when we ask everything just seems secretive instead of straight forward answers. It always seems to be "wait and see" or "just don't worry about that" with a big shroud of mystery instead of an answer. Do you find this in your program?

My program also has an air of secrecy in it, it drives me crazy. I am the type who likes to plan ahead and to know what is coming up next. The instructors act like we are asking for a million dollars if we ask questions.

We are preparing for our preceptorship and they still are closely guarding the list of where we will be going for our precept. What is the big secret? I am going to need to plan well in advance for this rotation and they will not share the info.

Sure would be nice to be treated like an educated adult instead of like a child.

They have spent nearly 4 years teaching us and guiding us towards the NCLEX, but still treat us as though we can't be trusted....

That the reason they're being so "secretive" is perhaps TPTB haven't yet formulated their plans? They just don't want to let you know how disorganized they are...

most likely!!! I know they seem to take forever to tell us our placements too... they always say "well, there might be last minute changes and we don't want people to be disappointed" I guess my question is... don't they realize we have to plan out lives around these decisions?!

I just graduated in June and I know the reason they kept us in the dark was because they were scrambling to find us all a place and an instructor. One of the local hospitals funded 8 extra slots in the program, but they had a hard time finding faculty. We would find out the week before. The only good thing was that they only put people in the PM rotation that requested it.

I know at our school they reason they say, 'don't worry about that right now, we will let you know', is because they have no clue. This drove me crazy at first, because I could never schedule anything because they would wait until the last minute to schedule a lab or lecture. I have gotten used to it know. Glad to know its not just my school. Good Luck.

Well my school is not only secretive about clinical placement but, when it comes to our tests in med/surg, we do not get our grades back for 2 weeks, and then we are given our scan trons while the instuctor rushes through the answers and collects them back up, so we have no clue what we actually missed or why??? If you have a question or debate about a question on the test, you are promptly told that the answers are not up for discussion??!!! Now I dont know about you but 2 points means something to me, and if I got it right I WANT THEM!!!!! I dont understand why this is necessary, we are now at the end of the semester and the final is cumalative, we still haven't recieved our last test back and have no clue what we know and don't know! Please pray for me and my fellow students.....cause we need it

Can you ask the teacher individually to go back over them with you during office hours? I would probably go to an advisor or someone over her head if not - it doesn't help you learn if you can't know where your weaknesses are. My assessment teacher just let us come to her office and look back at our first tests. My patho teacher is weirder about challenging mistakes and wrong answers but we do still get to look at the test and know what we missed at the time.

Best wishes... are you almost done with this teacher at least??
