I NEED SLEEP::zzzzz My weekend was devoted to studying for today's final written exam for Fundamentals. I never went to bed last night - was UP all night. Laid down at 5:30am this morning & just had sizes of catheters, blood pressure, rectal tube measurements, oxygen mask m/L & %'s running through my brain. Needless to say, I got up & read some more. SCORED AN 85 "B". It was REALLY hard. Although I busted my butt, some girls didn't even study that much & came out w/about the same grade as me. I used to think I was smart. HA! Managed to come out w/a B for the course.

Well, tomorrow is our skills exam where we do hands on. If I fail this, I cannot continue. (no pressure:o ). Some of the stuff, we never went over. This has me really nervous. And I am too tired to try & study for this. It is really hard to do these procedures when you are working w/ dummies that do not have arms.

Wish me luck. If I make it, I can p-up my uniform tomorrow.

Justjen,

First of all I hope you did well on your skills!!! Congrats on your B that's great!! I know how you feel. Last week I took my health assesment exam (got a 95) Thank God!!! and this week wednesday I have my skills exam (on a dummy as well) Talk about stressed out. Let us know how well you did

You're half-way there. I suggest getting some sleep tonight, otherwise you could make some errors tomorrow simply from the lack of sleep.

Prior to taking the skills exam, remember to take a few deep breaths & try to relax. I'm sure everyone is nervous, it's a normal reaction......have faith in yourself & remember to breathe! Good luck! You can do this!!!!!!

Well, after praying in the elevator & in the bathroom (as I was getting sick) and before going into skills - I picked a packet w/ the easiest stuff - Putting on gloves & sterile gown, don & remove PPE and irrag. Foley catheter.

I had a melt down before going in though. My face got really red, my eyes were welling up w/ tears & I couldn't stop shaking. Had to ask to be excused to go to bathroom & then, calmed myself again.

Anyway - the teacher said she knew that I practiced & that she knows I spent several hours doing so, and that she had faith in me.

After it was all said & done - I told her that I would not act this way in front of a patient. She said that they will be there for us & would be more like a advocate than anything.

Well, no nursing classes for the rest of the week. Today, I am going to treat myself to watching TV & an icecream:D

Good luck to all of you out there & thanks for your support.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Good job! Woooot!

Congrats Jen,

I am so happy for you. I was a basket case before I went in for my skills but like you I got lucky. I had to wash the patients face vs. a complete bed bath, next i had to move the patient up in the bed using a drawsheet, and last place the patient bed in a semifowler position how lucky was I!!!!!! Now on to more stress like a presentation in healthy communities and a test in fundamentals best of luck!!!!!
