words on your graduation cap

Are any of you all going to write something on your mortar board for the crowd to see from above? If so, what are you going to write? Some of us were wanting to write, "RN" on the top but now I am thinking I want something different. So, any ideas?

No, it wasn't something I've ever thought of. Sounds interesting though.

Along those same lines...a group of students put RN on top on their hats at graduation last year and were asked to remove it because the state nurse practice act says you are not allowed to present yourself as an RN (or LPN) until you pass your NCLEX, which includes wearing anything or presenting yourself in any fashion that someone would think you are an RN (or LPN). That includes wearing those cute little T-shirts that say RN. In the mean time, you are a GN.

Who would've ever thought that......

Our school prohibits it :(

That makes sense to me. I won't consider myself an RN until I pass my boards.

You could where your stethscope around your neck. A group of Nursing grads did that at my brother's graduation and I thought that was a neat idea. :) Everyone knew who the nurses were. It also is a little more professional.

Just a thought.

Students caught some flack for the same last year...but it is OK (from my school's standpoint) to write "RNA" (RN applicant) on their caps...

I think I am going to write: I.V. LEAGUE on mine!! What do you think? :)

ETA: I didn't want to go with RN and actually had the SAME thought (law says i'm not an RN) about pinning. My pin has a pin guard that is not removable and the pin guard says RN. I am kind of at a loss.

So, my cap is going to say "Life is good c/o 2005"

That is my favorite saying.

I love the stethoscope at graduation idea!

Congrats to all and all my love to the RN's already practicing. Y'all don't forget to do something every once in a while for yourselves...YOU DESERVE IT!

My little "study" group are decorating our caps but undecided about how as of yet. We were told NOT to put RN b/c we were not RN's yet. I have kept a couple of small mementos that I know I will glue on such as green ribbon from our health fair booth. I would love to see what everyone else if going to put on theirs...........

Well, I talked it over with my fave instructor today. I never thought about not being able to do it until some said their school didn't allow it. Apparently the Big Cheese is very "romantic" (if you will) about Commencement. Everything is VERY traditional. While he won't say, "You cant do it", my instructor seems to think that he will look down on you if you do. So anyway, I guess I will be there, in my plain burgandy cap and gown. (which I am appalled by LOL b/c our school color is red, not deep burgandy! LOL) :rotfl:

I dont see what the big deal is about not being able to put "RN" on your graduation hats because you havent taken the boards yet. I mean we are talking about a graduation ceremony..

Putting white tape on a hat that says "RN" for a ceremony is hardly the same as going out to hospitals pre-license and portraying yourself as an licensed nurse seeking a job.
