People choose nursing for a variety of reasons:

  1. A parent, aunt, or grandmother was/is a nurse.
  2. A life-changing event.
  3. You care about people.
  4. You wanted to make a difference.
  5. You want to care for your loved ones.
  6. For the money...
  7. A documentary, book, movie, etc drew you into the world of nursing.

What is your reason for getting into nursing?

It's hard for me to explain why I am choosing nursing, just because I've wanted to be a nurse for such a long time. When I was a kid healthcare always interested me, and I loved helping people and making them feel better. My dad is the biggest inspiration to me, he is an OR nurse. I remember him coming home and I would hound him about his day and what surgeries they did, which I actually still do to this day. When I was in High School I shadowed my dad over Christmas break and I couldn't have been more excited. I almost didn't mind waking up at 5. What I didn't expect was the nurse anesthetists. I never knew that there was such a thing, and I've never looked back; I know that I want to be a nurse anesthetist.
