I never thought it would get here and now it's only days away! Who else starts in January? I would love to be able to share our experiences as we all get started. I'm excited to get started but scared to death at the same time. From what I've heard I guess that's pretty typical. Well good luck to everyone...Go Class of '06!!

I'm starting the junior level (actual nursing courses) of a BSN program on January 18, 2004. I was initially on the alternate list for admittance, but I got in!! I'm really excited about my new venture.

Good for you! I'm still hoping that a friend of mine who is on the alternate list gets in. There's still hope that she'll be admitted. I don't want to start this journey alone.

I went to orientation last night for RN Program and I am totally overwelmed the syllabis oh my gosh is all in French to me, and it was true what I heard about the instructors at this school in MI they do all act like DRILL SARGENTS :uhoh21:

Not sure how anyone makes it through to be a Nurse

Maggie-

what did you decide to do? Are you going to quit your job and give it a try?

Debi

I'm starting Jan 10th, an accelerated program. I just got the syllabi, and I'm wondering what the heck am I doing! I knew it was going to be intense, but seeing in writing what we cover....AAAH! NOW I'm nervous!

Goodbye life!

Good luck to everyone else starting out there!!!

And good luck to you ....

I am bursting at the seams because I will be starting the clinical portion of my evening/weekend program on Thurs. 1/27/05.

I got the call I have waited six months for on Monday afternoon. Sadly, I didn't make the cut for the Fall 2004 Semester since my pre-clinical GPA fell short). :crying2:

For those who are wondering, I am an evening/weekend student at BMCC in Manhattan. For the last two semesters, the minimum GPA has been very competitive. Last semester, the minimum GPA was a 3.73. (gulp!):stone After retaking an old course I transfered in, I kicked up my preclinical GPA to a 3.92 and that helped me secure a hard earned spot in the Spring clinicals. :p

Anyway, I already got my book list (7 books), a four chapter assignment to do, review of dosage calculations for a test and some orientation and uniform fittings. I also have to get BCLS certified by the first day of class.

I know this is going to drain the life out of me, with a full-time job and a very high maintenance husband at home, but I am so ready to move ahead. We shall all take each others hands and walk, side by side, through this wonderful journey of nursing school through the good and the bad. Best of luck to all!

I start my ADN program on Mon. Jan. 10. We already had orientation and I have most of my books(except the syllabus- which is not ready yet!:uhoh21: ) I am feeling overwhelmed already! I have a drug calculations test on Tue. the 11 that you have to make an 85 or better on or else you are out of the program. I feel pretty good about my math skills but that- or else -feeling still makes you second guess yourself. I know we will all get through this just fine but Im still wishin I could FF this time and be done with school! Good Luck guys !! Im sure Ill talk to you soon I am addicted to this board. :p

I understand that BMCC is tough school. I had looked into it since I work in Mahattan but I got into another school in NJ where I actually live. I bought $700 + books and uniforms. I have papers due already. I am also about to start nursing course. I also have a supported husband but works 12 hours days plus 2 kids. Good luck at school.

Wow, I guess I'm the only one so far who's already started? Our first day was Jan 3rd.

Most of the colleges around here go back on the 10th! :)

Maggie-

what did you decide to do? Are you going to quit your job and give it a try?

Debi

Hi Debi sorry for the late reply I have been buried in about 50 books :uhoh3: all weekend, yes I bought my classes & books for the first semester but have not quit my job yet, I am going to give it a try before I do that I have vacation time I'll be using 3 weeks I feel that's the safest way to do it right now. Classes start tomorrow (Lab) and I'm really nervous about it, I've been going through books this weekend and talk about OVERWELMED how can one ever learn so much material.

Well wish me luck I'll keep in touch about how it went

Maggie-

Good luck tomorrow. I start next Tuesday. My niece is almost finished and she said just keep up on the reading which there is alot of. But she also said to take good notes or tape the lectures which might help.

Keep us posted on your first week. I am really nervous also. Going to get my books tomorrow.

Take care

Debi

Hi guys! I'm starting my first day of nursing school tomorrow... er today! (ack, and I really should be sleeping, but I guess I'm nervous) I have Anatomy at 9am!

Went to an orientation on the 6th where they gave us a SIX chapter reading assignment for my Fundamentals class (NRSG 100). My jaw about dropped when I heard that! I could only afford $100 in books for now until my student loan check comes through, and I'm REALLY glad I picked this particular one to purchase! (I don't know about you guys, but I've got SIX for my fundamentals class alone that I need to purchase! Is this normal???)

I've read three chapters so far, and I go to my first meeting of that class Wednesday, so I guess I'm on track. I would HATE to be behind on my first day! I'm planning on staying at my job, and my employer is willing to work with my schedule, but I'm starting to have my reservations. It was a big reality check getting this much "homework" before class even starts!

I consider myself lucky that my school requires all students to be a CNA as a prerequisite. I just finished the CNA program at my university and took the state boards last week. I really feel that it was a great beginning. I think it takes a bit of the stress off. It's all so overwhelming... buying books, getting the loans, etc.. but going through the CNA program with pre-nursing students like myself was wonderful! We were able to get in some clinical time, and meet a lot of our future class mates!

Seems like the majority of us here start this week... Best of luck to y'all! I'm sure that we will be hearing a lot from each other in the next couple years!!!
