I'm looking for ideas where you go and where you like best for field trips.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Sandy

How many of you are even getting the chance to go to a dialysis clinic? In our area it is hard to get students in due to their interpretation of HIPPA!

Thanks again, everyone!

We haven't been on any yet...those start second semester. We have an autopsy at Texas Tech lined up in January, and we have some conferences and other things in the works. I heard we will go on quite a few. I can't wait!

We call them community experiences but field trip sounds much more fun! So far I went to a childbirth education class given by a CNM. Monday I go to an AA meeting and Tuesday to an alcohol rehab center. Doesn't quite sound like my fieldtrips from junior high school.

We went to a funeral home, the nursing examiners board(for nurses license on the line for stealing drugs etc), area hospitals with certain specialties, we had to do a day at headstart and do a report, and a day at a convention center kinda like a career fair. Nancy

Headstart sounds like a great idea during Peds rotation!

I agree Headstart would be good for the peds semester. We did 2 clinical days at a day care center, then 2 days with a school nurse (1 high school, 1 elementary). All the high school kids going in to see the nurse just so they could go home  Ah the memories lol. I really enjoyed the school rotations though, especially the elementary.

I didn't get to go to a morgue but did go to a funeral home, a cardiac rehab and dialysis center. One class even went to a exhibit called Body Worlds...

I flew to L.A. this weekend just to see this exhibit. It is absolutely incredible. I highly recommend it to anyone who is going to be in the area in the next couple of months. It runs through 1/23/05.

This morning I'm preparing for my community experience at the county alcohol rehabilitation center where I will be given one patient to do an IRP. I'm a bit nervous because there's an extensive history of alcoholism in my background (step father, former husband, last boyfriend, SIL and various and sundry in laws). I don't want this to be about me and will have to be careful not to do just that.
