i have a few questions for you nursing students.
your age:
your location:
what school do you go to?
are you doing adn, bsn, rn-bsn, etc. ?
how long have you been in the program?
how long is the program?
how long did it take you to get in? (waitlist?)
what was your gpa?
are you happy with the program?
how much does it cost (estimate for the whole program)?
see,
i'm looking into more options for school. unfortunately, it's very time consuming to go through every single school on the nursing school list.
two options have i have seriously looked into and am currently deciding between:
the stlcc's - adn ~ b/c i have a lot of credits already taken care of it'll be just around 5,000$ it's a 1.5 year waiting list though (after i apply in may)
and university of southern nevada - bsn ~ it'll cost nearly 40,000$ no waitlist but i'd only start a semester before stlcc because i need more prereqs before applying.
anyone in either of these programs? heard good/bad things?
sometimes i think i should just forget about the money, get loans, and go the bsn route...but sometimes i just am content with the adn...the change in cost is so drastic!!
anyway, your response would be greatly appreciated.
have a nice day:d

your location:i'm living near binghamton, ny
what school do you go to? i attend the state university of new york in binghamton
are you doing adn, bsn, rn-bsn, etc. ? i am graduating this may with my bsn and will become and rn (once i am licensed and pass the nclex)
how long have you been in the program? this is the 4th semester of the 4 semester nursing curriculum. the degree is a 4 year degree, but the first two years are all general education credits that i had gotten at a local community college and transferred into the university's nursing program.
how long is the program? i guess i answered that in the previous question...lol
how long did it take you to get in? (waitlist?) there is a bit of a waiting list, however, i applied around february of 2005 after getting frustrated with being on the waiting list at my community college's associate degree nursing program. i ended up starting at the university the fall of 2005...so really no waiting for me.
what was your gpa? i had just above a 3.8 gpa when i graduated the community college with an isat (individual studies in applied technologies = basically having done all general education classes) and also was a member of phi theta kapa honor society.
are you happy with the program? the program as a whole is a good program. there are a few things that i wouldn't mind seeing changed..but i'm sure every school is probably like that. everything has something good and bad about it.
how much does it cost (estimate for the whole program)? most of mine has been covered with grants, but i think it runs about $3500 to 4000 per semester. that's just the fees and tuition and maybe some books. this doesn't not include if you were to live on campus and pay the room and board (i wouldn't know the cost of that since i'm married with kids living in our own house).

hope some of this information is helpful. would be happy to answer any other questions you might have about it there.

(waitlist?) what was your gpa? are you happy with the program?how much does it cost (estimate for the whole program)? hey, i'm 24 and i am currently enrolled in an adn program in the southwest suburbs of chicago. i have been in college for 5 years but this is my second, and final yesr of nursing school. i started out not knowing what i wanted to major in, and took gen ed's then decided on nursing. i also switched schools twice. the program at my school is 2 years, but they recommend taking your gen ed's and a&p and all that before doing your nursing classes (which really is the smart thing to do). i didn't have to wait to get in, i had a lot of credit hours and a 3.7 gpa. i know people who have had to wait up to 2 years to get in, but it depends on how many credit hrs u have and your gpa. i am happy in the program, my school has a good reputation, a 99% nclex pass rate, and really good relationships with the surrounding hospitals which makes it easier to land the job you want after graduation. the only disadvantages i see with my program is there seem to be a lot of instructors on power trips and some waste precious class time talking about what great nurses they are. but as long as you're responsible, prepared and know your stuff you have no problems. i do very well, and i will be graduating in 3 months. i go to a community college so tuition is low...about $2000 a year minus the cost of books. but there is financial aid and grants. hope the info helped! aloha,[/qu

what was your gpa? my undergrad gpa was 3.5 with lots of good standing awards.
are you happy with the program? yes, overall. there are some things i hate though. i would definitely recommend doing an accelerated program if you can handle it.
how much does it cost (estimate for the whole program)? about $40,000.
just to add, after i graduated from college, i was considering getting my adn at our local community college. there are about 5 community colleges around here that have nursing programs... all of them have a 3-4 year waiting list... so the high tuition of my program wasn't even a consideration, because i will be done and working 4 years ahead of the adn students.... plus, i'll have my bsn! i think it's an awesome opportunity.
