What book does your school use as their Bible relating to their philosophy? Ours is Modeling and Role Modeling: A Therory and Paradigm for Nursing. Every thing we do is based on it.

This is like stuff you NEVER forget! I cannot remember the exact titles of the books, but there were two:

  1. Selye's work on Stress (physical-biochemical and psychosocial stressors)
  2. Antonovsky's work on general resistance resources (physical/biochemical, artifactual/material, cognitive/emotional, valuative/attitudinal, interpersonal/relational and macrosociocultural)

We had to read both these books in a class we took before we even got into clinicals. For our written care plans we had to assess each of our patients by these two theories. Our nursing interventions had to address each of these seven roles of the nurse:

  1. care giver
  2. health teacher
  3. counselor
  4. change agent/leader
  5. client advocate
  6. beginning researcher
  7. coordinator/collaborator

This was a BSN completion program for nurses who already had their RNs. I still have my clinical notebook that has this information in it. It is from 1983.

had selye's book in 1974...when i returned to complete bsn degree in 1999, betty neuman's system model was the theoretical background of program ...........still is 25+ yrs later
