Waiting for acceptance

I realize all schools are different but - basically what are they looking at for acceptance? The waiting is killing me. All applications had to be in by December 31, 2003. They started the "reviews" on January 5th.

I have been out of school for 25+ years, but have worked in the medical field all those years. I had great grades in high school and college (over 20 years ago), took their chemistry course (A-), I was in the 99 percentile on my CNET test, one of my references was a local surgeon, and on my interview, the administrator said "perfect answer!," when I answered "why do you want to become a nurse?" She told me there she could see no reason for me not to be accepted, but.....

They only do the "acceptance thing" once a year. Any one know how long it takes (I'm getting older by the minute!) ??

What were your experiences? Thanks.

UPDATE: I'm IN!

i don't have any advice for you, but I'M WAITING tOO!! eeek!

it's such a pain, though my wait is longer because i have to take my PSB-RN exam in two weeks! double eek!

then i should find out by march 1st....OY!

i did have some good recommendations though...a RN/Allied health tech teacher (my teacher from high school), a team lead from my current job, and a friend of mine who's been a paramedic for like 10 years....

oh the wait is on...we should come up with a waiting song!

i know the school i applied at you had to have at least a 2.5 from high school/college, 3 recommendations, and score in the 75th % of the nursing exam, and an essay on why you want to be a nurse.

keep us updated about getting in...good luck!

I, too, am waiting for acceptance. It is driving me CRAZY! Our school switched this year from a "first-come, first-serve" to a selective process. The thing is, different people get told different things about the process, and the qualifications seem to change from day to day. For example, one student was told that as long as she was working on her pre-reqs as of April 1, she would be considered. I was told 2 days later that first they will look at the people who were already completely done, then if there were any spots left, they would look at those of us who will be in those classes spring semester will be looked at.

Anyway, the whole thing is STRESSFUL and I don't think I will relax until I have a letter in my hand.

I have my app in hand and it's not due until March 1st, then you have to wait until May 20 which is the completion deadline for them to start reviewing. So I won't find out until this summer if I'm in for Fall, and from what I understand, they tell you in late July. Ugh:eek:

Ha. I know how you feel.

My background is very similar to yours--great student, worked in medical field, in 99th percentile on NLN, great references....when I interviewed, the faculty member said "you'll have no problems getting in...".

Well I didn't get in. I got wait-listed for a year.:( I just finished my first semester, but I hate being in that position of feeling like it's a "sure thing" and then--wham--you get disappointed.

Hang in there...it's horrible waiting, I know! I hope you get good news!

I know what you mean. Everyone tells me I will get in - but I won't believe it until I see it!

I hate to say it, but I often live by the motto: "Don't expect anything, and you won't be disappointed!!"

Ahhhhhhh mauser,

You and I would get along great, lol!

Keep thinking good thoughts, even if you don't get in, you're obviously a strong applicant and will get in when the time is right. At my school, they keep a "short" waiting list of 8 people, so they're offered first admission out of the 48 seats in the class. The year I applied they had 400 applicants for 48 slots and 8 people on the waiting list took the first 8 seats....so it was a 1 in 10 chance of getting in. Even when you're a strong applicant, that's no guarantee you get in the first time!

Keep us posted!

YES! At 5:20 p.m. EST - I received an email from the director of nursing! I have a "clinical seat" on the fall 2004 class!

:kiss

The more I read about other nursing schools admission procedures, the luckier I feel. I go to a small cc, and there is no admission test, no interview, no "why I want to be a nurse" essay. Just fill out a basic application & wait & see. There used to be competition, but I only know if 2 people who didn't get in first try. I've heard that this year, like the last few years, there are more available seats than applicants. The only requirement is a 2.8 gpa. I went back this year after 9 off having babies, and got a 4.0 taking chemistry and microbiology. I start Monday with physiology & another chemistry, then should start clinicals in the fall. My total gpa is 3.3, so I'm still going to shoot for another 4.0, which would bring it to a 3.6 when decisions are made, just in case there is some competition.

The waiting game is frustrating! The school that I applied to has told me that I am in since I am on the waiting list, but I have seen nothing in writing. Every day I check the mail, and for the most part have been disappointed to find no letter. The school says that the are waiting until the January class starts before sending the letters out, and that I should get it by mid January. My only fear is that they will change the pre reqs and I will not be eligible. Has anyone noticed that the pre reqs are different for every school!

I applied in March of 2003 and had to wait until the end of August to find out if I was in (2 days before class started!!). I was an alternate all summer long and it was horrible! I didn't know what my future was going to be and was signed up for all these other classes while anxiously waiting to find out whether I would get in or not. I went to orientation as an alternate and that's when I found out. I literally cried in the Allied Health Department when they told me I was in!! The waiting was all worth it!!:D

Count me in as another waiting for an acceptance letter. I took the entrance exam last month and scored as high as I could. Shocker since I'm an old dog :chuckle. I was on pins and needles waiting for my interview which was yesterday. I was told I should have a letter by early next week. Hopefully my age, desire and being an EMT for 12 years will help.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!!!!
