Venting about entrance requirements

That has got to be SO frustrating! I can't imagine how frustrated and impotent that would make me feel. I feel so fortunate that I just go to a dinky little CC in a dinky little town. There's competition, but it's not THAT bad. I think there are about 250 applicants for 100 slots, and they go only on NET score, so I'm pretty confident that I'll get in.

Can you leave the state and look elsewhere? That is what I did/from NC and I did not want to have to wait two years/so, I got into a private school in VA and they took all my credits....as a second degree student//so, good luck;) hty/

I live in Reno, NV and our programs are tough to get into as well (just not THAT tough). I have heard that there are usually 350-400 applicants for the 52 seat program. Thankfully, there is a university here in town that offers a BSN with much less competitive admission. I figure that if I don't get into the ADN program, I'll just take an extra year of prereqs and go after my BSN. Good luck with your program(s), hopefully the orientations are just trying to scare you!

Gosh! I'm really thankful that I"m in california. I applied to two school last year and got into both programs. They both are good but I chose the best one (in my honest opinion).

If you are willing to fork out 20k....move to california. We have tons of RN programs here..... J/K

But seriously, I feel your pain.....hang in there. Hard work always pays off.

I did apply to UNLV, and was accepted as a Pre-RN student (would go directly into the program once I finished my pre reqs), however, I'm a single mom, and wouldn't be able to move from the area (my mom watches my daughter while I'm at work).

As for paying 20k a year... one of the private schools I will be applying to is right around that much. But if it means I'll be in a program, if it means I get to be a nurse, I think it will be worth it.

Right now, I'm just trying to take it one day at a time, and try to do as well as possible in my pre reqs. After that, I'll just have to hope my best is good enough. :)

this is why i applied for dual admissions, luckly my cc had the agreements with universities with great nursing programs. i felt like you almost had to be perfect in everything to get in 4.0, excellant SAT, all pre-reqa done before appliyi, and the best recomendations. come on that's enough to make on want to give up.

In my school, we also have a couple of people who are from adjoining states that had 2 or more years on a waiting list to get into the LPN program. There are also many of us who didn't want to wait 2 or 3 years on a waiting list for the RN program so we are spending a year getting an LPN then we have a local CC with a LPN to RN bridge program with only a 6mo-1 yr waiting list. At least we could be working as a nurse in the meantime. Good luck. Tonya

If you are accepted to the private school, will it all be paid for through grants and scholarships? If not, I would think it might be less expensive to just move to LV and enroll your child in childcare, than to stay where you get free childcare yet pay $20,000/year in tuition.
