Has anyone done (or in the process of doing) the accelerated bachelor's in nursing for non-nurses at University of Rochester?

If so, how have your experiences been? Any comments would be greatly appreciated :)

Cheers!

Ah I was going to write a post about this as well!! I just got accepted to the program that starts this may and wanted to know more about it from people who have been through the program! I'm pretty nervous and don't know what to expect. If you hear anything let me know! :)

Specializes in Psych, ER, Resp/Med, LTC, Education.

Hey all! I graduated from the program in 2003--the first year of the program. It was only 24 of us then but it has grown a lot since then like over 100 each year at least I think. I thought it was good. Great instructors, great preceptors for clinical......I would go there again. It is associated with Strong Memorial Hospital which is where I work now.........in the Psych ER. The largest employer in the area. So you get good clinical experience. The pharmacology teacher is brilliant......Amy Karch....she writes the Lippincotts Nursing Drug guide.....It is interesting to do this program with people with such a HUGE variety of life experiences and educational backgrounds...like you may not see in a traditional program. It really adds to the experience I felt.

Congrats on getting accepted Alli--thats awesome!! Do you have all your pre-reqs done?

Feel free to message me if either of you have any further questions.

Ah thanks for getting back to me so fast!!

Its good to hear that you had a good experience from the program. I saw strong and it was absolutely beautiful, by far the biggest hospital I have ever seen. I am really excited but really nervous to start as well. Since it is such a prestigious school I am worried that it is going to be so hard-and im going to suck at it :-\

I currently am a behavioral neuroscience major with a minor in health administration so I know what its like to over load and take a lot of classes. I am really excited to be a nurse and think I can handle it but the fear of the unknown is always scary.

How difficult would you say the program is? How much time were you able to dedicate to yourself as well as classes? I got accepted to Binghamton and in Philly but I think I'm going to end up going to rochester. The only thing that is slightly deterring me is cost and the fear that the classes are going to be close to impossible. What do you think??

Thank you so much for your help by the way, I appreciate it more then you know!

I will be attending U of R this May. Has anyone heard anything about financial awards etc? What are you plans for accommodation?

Did you apply to all the financial awards?? I think we hear about them late march but i really do not know. Are you from Rochester?

Yes I did apply to all the awards. No I am from the DC Metro. Have you made up your mind on attending? Are u done with pre requisites? I taking my last one class online.

I'm graduating with my bachlors this year and most likely going to Rochester in May. I'm done with all my prereqs and now just taking the classes I need to get my bachelors. Chances are pretty high that I'm def going to rochester, I already sent in my deposit but the financial issue is the only thing that may get me. Are you def going?

Absent any unforeseen events, I will be there. The school is very expensive though. Hope to see you then.
