Nursing Students General Students

My first semester of nursing school was filled with fear, anxiety, and insecurity. All these medical terms and procedures were being thrown at me and my brain literally went into over drive. I dreaded going to the hospital for clinical rotations, I dreaded going to lab for skills check offs, and it absolutely did not help being around all those type A nursing students who were always reminding me of everything I was supposed to be doing.

Fast forward to third semester: Giving a patient a bath is a walk in the park. You want me to maneuver around those 10 tubes coming out of my patient? Sure why not. I am supposed to add an additional assessment for my patient on dialysis with an AV fistula to feel a thrill and listen for a bruit? Sure, whatevs. Hang this primary and check if it is compatible with this IVPB? Alright then. Give 4 SQ shots back to back? I GOT THIS!!!

My point in posting this is that I am not only proud of how far I have come as a student but I want to encourage all you first semester nursing students out there!!! Don't argue every missed point to the very end with your instructor. Don't be so caught up in being perfect that you miss some of the most important aspects of patient care. Just be yourself and you will discover your nursing side sooner or later. One day, all these things that you are learning will make sense.

Good luck!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Be yourself is all that you can do. I heard this line in an Audioslave song. Good for you to feel good about yourself. Good luck in your schooling,.

Thank you :)
