'The Caring Professional' Assignment

Hi Everyone,

I've just started my nursing course and we've been given our first assignment to write. It's called 'The Caring Professional' and I have to explore meanings of the word 'care' and identify significant characteristics of the professional carer. Does anyone know of any good books, journals or websites which may help me with this asignment? It would be great if anyone does know of any.

Check into Watson's Caring Theory. She is a famous nurse theorist who has done tons of research on the subject. Nursing schools tend to go over and over her research in various classes. I believe that she is a nursing instructor somewhere in Colorodo. Remember to put in your own opinions/experiences/etc as well. Maybe even a critique of what you think about what Watson says since she is who many turn to for information on this subject.

Here are some links:

Here is a link that suggests books/etc. on caring - it is also linked to the website about Watson's Theory. I think she may have suggested these resources

I did a google search and found this for you. It looks as if it is a powerpoint on what a caring nurse is from someone's nursing class. if you like the colorful slides, just click on graphic version. However the plain link is easier to read.

As mentioned in the slides - if you want to get into culture - Leininger's Transcultural Model is the place nursing schools tend to go:

Hope those help!!! Good Luck!

I think your instructors are also going to want you to include your own perception of what "caring" is. This is a common concept that is discussed in beginning nursing classes.

Oh that's briliant! Thankyou, that's going to be a great help!
