Studying "whats the big picture?"

I may have been studying all wrong (passively) and not finding the "big picture connection." I remember talking about the theorists and nursing process models first level and never applied those models in my studying since we are not taught this in class to continue to "connect" So I am writing this post because I would like to know as I read the chapters should I be asking myself how do these new facts connect to ormen, maslow or nursing process? For instance, say I am reading about a patient who had Laryngectomy and can not talk. Ok so first I should say 1) Maslow this relates to "nutrition" and is in the physiological level and can be an exception to a priority .2) Nursing process : assess sign and symptoms (ie difficulty communicating) diagnosis (xyz) 3) intervention as a nurse I will use picture grids to communicate with patient 4) evaluate . Cognitive level :application.

Is this HOW I should be studying?? Also would it help if I ask my teacher for a copy of an old exam because in my book I see he uses a test bank and the books states that each test bank question is formatted with a rationale, cognitive level, nursing process and page number to try and understand not only my professor but the big picture?

I think you are on the right track; however, think of your priority diagnoses in terms of what would be the highest level of priority...think of ABCs then in terms of Maslow.

Also, don't forget to use rationales in terms of studying in the nursing process way.

Hope this helps!

Thank you!! Yes, ABC's always first :)

That is why I put an exception because if the ABC's needs are not met, then this is the highest priority :)

Hey Natasha, not able to send you a PM. It's saying your message box is full. You need to clear some messages. Anyways, I resent the books via email. I hope you received it. If not, check your spam and junk folders.
