I came across this thread in another section. https://allnurses.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65294

It is pertaining to new LPN grads going into Med/Surg right out of school. I am thinking about doing that while I pursue my RN, but I haven't even started clinicals yet, so I don't know what to expect. So, ladies and gents, how many of you are going into Med/Surg right out of school?

I think that is what I am going to do, a very wise nurse that I have a great deal or respect and admiration for told me that she always felt that med/surg for a year helped out a nurse in any area she wanted to pursue. I recently moved and now that nurse leave just 3 house down across the street and I see her allot, she is semi-retired and she still thinks that is the way to go.... it is great have her that close

I am a new LPN and will return to school this fall for my RN. I currently work on our local Surgical floor. I recommend Med/Surg for getting the basics down. I was offered a job in a specialty area, but turned it down--and am glad I did.
