Statistics is easy so far!

I am taking statistics now even though I don't actually need it until I go for my BSN. I already had this teacher for advanced algebra though and got the highest grade in that class. I figured it would be a good idea to take a class like statistics with a teacher that I know rather than one I don't, you know? Anyways, I was a bit nervous since so many people had said how hard it is, but I just got my first test back and ended up with a 99.7%. I also got 100% on my homework (we do two chapters worth and then turn it all in at once) and my first quiz. Sorry for the bragging, but my ego sure needed this boost after Chemistry last semester (I got a C). I still think I could have done better with that class with another teacher. Anyways, were there any classes that you were afraid of that ended up being easy? I actually feel a bit silly saying this, but I even like doing the homework in this class. It is kind of fun, like doing puzzles. I just thought I would share with you all.

Hi!

I know, I often felt in the minority when I said I loved stats! I usually don't like math, but Statistics, I loved! I got an A in the class. Great job to you!

Kats, First off - good for you on those great grades in Stats!!! One of my schools requirements for admission was college level algebra. I took several algebra courses in High School, but went to College years ago for Business/Accounting - so didn't have college algebra and chose to challenge their algebra placement exam instead of taking the course. My oldest son (an Engineering Major in College) spent 2 months helping me study for the exam. I did pretty well in high school algebra a million years ago, but honestly hated it - just something I had to get through.

You said you think you could have done better in Chemistry with another teacher - I think that's an excellent point. If a teacher makes a subject interesting (even if it's really dry material) students will do better in that class. If they just ramble on through the class reading out of the text book - it becomes very boring and you don't soak up all that material.

I felt stupid asking my Son to tutor me in algebra, but turned out he's a fantastic teacher and I ended up really enjoying it. Unlike my high school algebra teachers, he made it very interesting and it was much easier to grasp the way he taught it to me. A lot of the material on the sample test dealt with calculus - I told my son I never took that in high school and couldn't learn it all in 2 months. He said - Mom, you don't have a choice, it's on the test, you have 2 months to learn it, you can do this. I realized my 19 year old son was taking time away from his own studies to help me out and I studied my behind off.

I was required to place into intermediate algebra for admission - I placed 20 classes higher - into their calculus and statistics class - I was shocked!!! I never brag about anything, but told everyone I knew. I was actually more proud of my Son for his teaching abilities. I'm studying for the Nursing Entrance Exam in a few weeks (with his help). Like I said - any subject can be interesting if you have a teacher that makes it exciting - then you want to learn more about it and you're sure to do better on tests, etc.

I am taking Statistics this semester as well and I am really enjoying it! It is not hard and I have 100% on all my homework and As on my tests so far :)

I think it is almost fun to do, kinda like a puzzle or something.

I was scared to death to take it but it has become my favorite class this semester! I have an awesome teacher to.
