Should I take out 25k for nursing school?

The nursing school that I'm applying for is a a private non-profit school with 16 month program for a BSN (or 21 month if you want the summer break). The school tuition and fees altogether is about 16000 and since I live 2 hours away from it I would need to take out and extra 7k-10k for housing. Does this seem like too much? I already owe 5k in student loans and will need to take another 5k for next school year in federal loans.

Even though I have an aversion to debt, $25,000 does not seem like a huge sum of student loan debt in this day and age. I would borrow the money cautiously.

My two cents? An of course that's all it is. But it comes from a place of experience.

Don't do it!! Debt is debt - there is no, "good" debt. And 25k is a lot!

My advice?

I will not even address my feelings on a 16K BSN path.. but you will already owe 10k in student loans then take another 25 -26k in loans for nursing school and housing if I'm reading your post correctly... and to be clear the amount you are planning on borrowing will have to be divided between federal and private student loans since the max per year for a fed loan when classified as a 3rd year student is 12.5k with most of that amount being unsubsidized...

If I had to make the decision you are attempting to make it would be an easy "not at this time." I would look for another route and more affordable option.

Best of luck.
