Scholorships/Grants

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Hello, Everyone

Does anyone know of any creditable scholarship/grant sites or organizations. Please share and most definitely share if you have been successful with any. I have to pay out of pocket for school which is going to be a challenge for me. I will most likely be attending nursing school in Alabama coming from Georgia.

Thank you in advance,

Go to the school financial aid office or the nursing school to see if they have a scholarship application. Only ones I ever got where from there. Local hospitals in Alabama also have scholarships if in nursing school currently on plan on pursuing a nursing degree. Baptist health (baptistfirst.org) takes applications every year jan- march 1. Brookwood hospital in Birmingham offers scholarships if selected you have to work for them for x amoint of years I think 2 or pay it back as a loan. East Alabama Medical Center in Auburn offers scholarships you agree to work for them. The national student nurses association officers scholarships for members they are very competitive I know one person that got them. You must be a member. The alabama board of nurses offers scholarships for current nursing and graduate students. They take applications once a year in February or something Fastweb and google you roll the dice. The alabama nurse scholarship is $600 a year I was offered it through my financial aid package. You agree to work in Alabama for a year or pay it back as a loan. They only verified my employment once for proof I was working in Alabama then I never heard from them again.

Sorry its so long hope it helps.

No thank you so much. I really appreciate your response

Your first stop should be FAFSA, the second your schools financial aid office.

It was and I was told that they don't accept federal loans only private loans. I don't qualify for Alabama Pell because I been in Georgia for some time.

Yikes. Do you know why? Is this a for-profit school?

Its Bevill State Community College and then they told me since I have a BA already I wouldn't be able to get it. Gadsen state and Shelton college said the same. Idk if its just an Alabama community college thing or what

There are student loans out there for second degree students. Fill out your FAFSA and see what recommendations you get.

Try the FAFSA it can't hurt. But I have heard from nurses I work with that local ADN programs in Alabama including Wallace and Jeff State and now Bevill will not give federal student loans to students that already have a bachelors or loans from a 4 year school. How they can get away with I don't know. Bevill is accredited and would still be worth it compared to a shady for profit that would want to saddle you with a lot of debt. Some hospitals offer tuition reimbursement that even PCTs are eligible for after six months that may help also or at least bring in some money to help pay as you go. There are BSN programs that accept 2nd degree students like UAB you could apply there and qualify for some financial aid I think up to 150% of a bachelor(s) is covered.

Yes I'm that person with a BA already with those 4 year loans and I'm going to be attending Bevill.
