Remembering EVERYTHING from Pre-Reqs????

Nursing Students General Students

I am applying to nursing schools (2nd degree BSN) which for the most part will start summer of next year. I'm taking my last 2 pre-reqs now. I've already finished all the A&P, Chem, etc, and got straight A's (4.0). I thoroughly enjoyed the material, was top of my class, read on about extra stuff just because I was really interested in learning more about the body, etc. BUT, it's prob been about 6mo since i finished my A&P prereqs, I remember a lot but not everything is right in the forefront of my brain like it was when I was taking the class. I didn't cram or anything, I took my time and learned everything as well as I could but I'm kinda freaking out that if I don't even start nursing school for like 8 months or more, what if I don't remember every single vein, artery, muscle, etc.???????

Maybe it's just my experience, but I've found they care more about if you understand how the major systems and individual organs function as opposed to knowing every single vein, muscle or type of cell.

If you can periodically review your systems and physiology, I think you'll be fine, particularly if you said you took the time to learn the material instead of memorizing.

Congrats on the program!

Thanks for posting this, I am in the exact same situation. By the time I start my nursing program it will have been a year since A&P II.. And there was just SO much material to really soak up.. I know major ideas and the systems and organs in the systems and other things, but every little detail.. no way.. And the program I'm doing does not have prereqs, instead, you take all of your gen eds while you are doing your nursing courses... So, most students will be taking A&P I and II during the program so I'm thinking they may have an advantage over me.. I just started reviewing things my my textbook and all the notes that I've taken and old assignments. I'm really glad I kept everything!

Keep all your pre - req books! You will refer back to them often (at least I have! ) Good luck!

Congrats on doing well with your prereqs! Please don't worry at all about not being able to remember everything covered in each of your prereqs. If you WERE able to remember it all, I'd be worried about you. Not to mention, highly jealous.:D

You will retain the important stuff, don't worry about that. As long as you retain the important concepts & know where to look up any info stuck in the dark recesses of your mind, you'll do just fine.

Enjoy!
