Question about nursing school and shots

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but in nursing school, is there ever a point where you would have to stick each other or yourself??

I can't stand being stuck. Getting shots is the worst for me. I'm not sure how I'm going to be at giving shots even.

But, yea, it would be good to know if I need to prepare myself for that.

We were never allowed to practive injections on eachother, or starting IVs, but I should warn you, OP, one particular hospital made us practive giving eachother Accuchecks before they would let us do any on the patients...we had several roations at this hospital & they made us practice this each time.

The first time I was at this hospital, the one person who was just absolutely terrified of sticking herself was a....phlebotomist...figure that one out

We got to give each other our flu shots. I had the honor of giving my first injection to a very scary instructor... :uhoh21:

ah, i remember giving my first injection. i was scared. i asked him if it hurt, and he said no. i started jumping up and down and said that was my first one. him and his wife laughed hysterically. i love giving shots...i also love doing ivs. sick, i know....but i don't mind getting poked either. i've been in and out of the hospital my whole life...this summer being the worst. i had to get a picc eventually...but i had been getting poked daily for 20 days....i was poked for two straight hours for 23 tubes of blood (i'm not exaggerating!). i went through so many i.v.'s. i work in peds and i see a lot of lines get lost or blow..i want to be one of those nurses that everyone goes to for an iv because she's really good.

Yup, we gave each other SQ and IM injections while the instructors were supervising. We were all nervous, but in the end, everyone felt good about getting their first shot out of the way. Personally, it really helped my self confidence before I started clinicals! We also did a Flu clinic....now I have no problem giving shots and felt very comfortable.

We also had to give each other Accuchecks! Those hurt way more than the shots...I know crazy, but true!

Aww, I hope I don't have to be a pin cushion! I hate getting poked with needles :(

We did IM shots on eachother and we did IV starts on eachother. I've given probably 3 shots total to actual patients, and im glad i had the experience. We got to pair up with whoever we wanted so that was a plus. Its good because you get the feel of what it feels like when the needle goes in and pushing the meds. I was a little nervous but I loved it! IV starts i dont like as much but we all survived!
