"What does "100mg PO QD/BID" mean?
I know this is Late but if anyone could please Help, I would most appreciate it. I was just added to my Chemistry class and this is the 3rd week of school. So I was just able to buy my Chemistry book today. Well the teacher Gave out homework and on one of the pages its all about drug dosage calculations and abbreviations. This is in Chemistry class.
But the question is "what does "100 mg PO QD/BID" mean?
I tried looking it up in Mosby's under abbreviations and I got that PO is orally. I think QD is every dose, I have no Idea about BID. Mosby's had nothing on that. PLEASE HELP Thankyou:kiss

Don't quote me on this...but since it's late I'll try to help you.
I'm pretty sure it means:
100mg= 100 milligrams
PO= by mouth
QD= everyday
BID= two times a day
hope this helps you.
Oh Thankyou. I kinda thought that might be, but didn't want to chance getting it wrong. Thanks. The other questions are How much of this drug (colace) should be given to an average adult in 24 hrs and How should drug be administered. I asked the teacher How are we suppose to know these answers and she said look it up on the internet (research). Remember this is Chemistry class. LOL Thanks again

Get a drug book; you'll need one for nursing classes anyway. :)
