Are there any other paramedics out there that are moving to the wide world of nursing?

Yes, I would be one. I am currently working on my nursing degree through Excelsior College. I've been a paramedic for about 3 years now.

I'm not one, but I know of at least four in our program. Good luck to you!

I'm not - but there's a fellow from my hometown who was a medic for several years, went on to get his BSN, and is applying to (and has gotten in to at least one) med school this year! :)

Amhash, Something I've always wondered about Paramedics - why aren't they paid more? I live in a small town and I know the few Paramedics here don't make the same money as an RN at any of the local hospital do - at least that's what I've heard.
I was in the Navy for 6 years, worked in an ER for a few of those years and was always amazed at what the Paramedics did for patients before we ever got them in the ER. They were incredibly trained and to me at least - you guys are like Doctors out in the field, really have to know your stuff.
I have great admiration for any Emergency Medical Personnel. When you get a call you have no idea what type of injuries you might find at an accident scene and have to be prepared for some very gory sights I'm sure - and know what to do quickly and think fast on your feet - it really amazes me. Just wondering why the compensation isn't that great for the job? Thanks for all you do. SusanNC
