thanks! I'm SO excited! Its the first real job I've had since my daughters' were born so I'm pretty pumped.

I've, in the past, been kind of "icked" by some of the hospitals I've been in, but this hospital is sooo much larger and nicer than the local country hospital and everyone was so friendly when I toured it. I cannot wait for my first day. :)

I don't think she just has one or two extra jobs she has seventy eleven :D

wow, bicster, with that craptacular attitude, you remind me of all the sharp-tongued, mean-natured, sarcastic, cynical nurses that i've met in my time that have taught me all about the kind of nurse i never want to be.

and in my book, working two or three jobs means working sixty hours a week or more. i'm pretty sure that there aren't many people out there who would agree that working sixty hours while going to school and having a family (which is what jenlaana has on her plate) is very compatible with good grades or a good life.

now maybe, just maybe, you're doing this yourself right now....maybe that's why you're so crabby and snide....in that case, TAKE A NAP, my friend! call in sick to one of your five jobs or something.

as for the rest of us, let us be supportive of each other's problems while you go roll your eyes quietly to yourself.

thanks! sleep well :-)

actually i did it from 1998-2003 when i was in grad school, opening a business, planning a wedding, selling a business and burying a father.

now, i dont have to think twice about tuition.

am i crabby? maybe. but it is nice that i have accomplished something you wont even try. dont worry, my tax money will continue to support your laziness.

Why is it that people think their taxes they pay stretch so far as to pay for a whole other person most of the time.

My husband and I pay a boatload of taxes (I'm sure your going to callus stupid for not being evasive) but I have no problem with that as the purpose of taxes is the spread the burden over the whole population. Your not special because you pay taxes

But we are taking about these ladies receiving federal loans not welfare or a grant.

I pulled up the default rates for all the states for federal loans awhile back and most states are 5% or less and remember thats the default rate not the writeoff rate. IN fact federal loans are very rarely written off and almost always get collected in the end

this is so silly. If we're going to go the "I pay taxes and hate that they support your laziness" route (ah yes because I am SO lazy! walk a day in my shoes first sister) then I could take what is pulled out of MY family's taxes pay for half a dozen people to go to school.

Regardless of what you think, or what you have been through in your life, it is not the best course of action to go so overboard beyond logic and work three jobs and go to school at the same time. I don't know your past enough to judge you, and you darn sure don't know enough about me to call me lazy just because I don't take the route that you do.

I just closed a business and can say that having my own business was a lot easier on the hours than working for someone else. If it was not for oversaturation in the market I was in to the point of never going above breaking even, I would have kept that going.

No matter what you think, tax money spent on education is a GOOD thing. The more educated our country is, as a whole, the better. There are much worse things your "tax money" is going towards for you to be crabby about, but you've obviously got a bug in your bonnet about this issue so I doubt anything anyone would say would change your mind.

I don't think I was out of line being frustrated about loans not being available to me. MY loan doesnt take any pennies from your pocket in the first place. And really, I don't think getting grant money to go to school for something in which there is a well known shortage is in any way a bad use of our government funds for ANYONE who can hack it in nursing school. Not everyone had the right start in life and I really support anyone in their 30's with a family and adult responsibilities that can make room to go to school and I will happily see them use MY tax dollars just for that, for the rest of my life.

I definitely agree. Everyone have their own personal situation and struggle. Not everyone is capable of holding three jobs and a school. And this is coming from someone who's was a CNA for 60 hours a week and go to Nursing School full time. Have you ever tried working a double shift from 3pm until 7am then get to class by 8am knowing you have to get back to work at 11pm? Well I do. Its hard work, and as nurses we should all know that's not good for your health. I was able to do this before because I was single and with my own rent and bills.

Now as a mother myself, having a toddler and infant is hard and straining. I'm still working full time and going to school full time. But I can see the hardship it is on my husband too. At times I will help him out and put studying aside. Trust me its hard when you have a mortgage and car payments. We're not trying to kill ourselves or our family, but we know that if we accomplish becoming a nurse, at least our family will be much happier and financially stable. Don't judge others because they can't have seventy jobs. Try understand a person in their shoes and not always yours.

Yes jenlaana and magnesium its hard to find a job that will go around your school schedule or fortunate enough for us to get into the evening/weekend program to hold a regular job. I'm at that stage too where I'm not qualified for stafford or to keep my full time job when fall semster come around. My other option would be to take a private loan to cover myself until I find something that will work. Good luck to the both of you. You'll be in my prayers.

Because you are a nursing student you could qualify for a medcap loan. You would apply to this from the bank -Wells Fargo offers it I'm sure others do too. Look into Chase student loans as well. You do not have to pay them back until you are done.

Hope this helps

My school uses perkins and direct loans, they take my tuition out and disburse the rest to me later in the semester usually in oct, and march, although the summers I usually work, this year I haven't found anything as of yet, wow the economy must be bad, I live in NYC and there are no jobs.

Thanks for the information sunnyroadtonursing. I will definitely look into it. I'm reviewing my options right now for healthcare educational loans as the subsidized and unsubsidized stafford loan I was only able (qualified for to the max) to pull out 4k for my school which makes me still short another 3 - 4k more, not considering books and supplies that come with the requirements. I have spoken to my financial aid office, and they said that I'm about completely exhausted my financial aid and should start looking elsewhere for financing my education. Unfortunately being married and with incomes combined from last year more than allowable for FAFSA really didn't help at all. As the semester approaching, my employer have finally discussed with me the options I have. They're willing to let me off on the days that I have class, but the hours I don't have school they want me to remotely log into the work computer and work. Leaving me really no room to study. I think I can do the first or second semester but not sure the rest. Well good luck to all and I will definitely keep looking around, as the sun will always shine somewhere.
