A&P - Droppin' Like Flies

People in my school are bombing out of A&P. I am a science geek so I am doing well. I've tried to help people, but one disappeared (guess he dropped). The other publicly insulted our professor in class tonight. I had given him a copy of my notes from the beginning of school until now too. I am through helping him now. He told the professor that his quiz sucked and that he thought he sucked too! Totally uncalled for. I could tell Dennis (prof) was getting warm, but he just told him that it was the easiest quiz he's given this semester and that if he knew the material it would have shown (which was absolutely true).

So many people are whining that the instructor sucks, but I think its just that you can only lecture so much on A&P. It is a LOT of material and you just have to read, re-read, re-write, re-read, etc. I find when I'm losing my focus, it helps to use the chapter reviews and practice tests. They're very organized and help to keep my thoughts organized so I can relate everything and remember it more easily.

Sorry if this post has no point, this guy just really bugged me tonight.

Some people do have true test anxiety...have a friend that was a business major (she graduated) and couldn't seem to pass exams in one of her business classes with anything better than a C (if she was lucky). She went to her professor in tears, not understanding why she messed up because she knew the answers. He started asking her questions and she could answer them, so basically that was her re-test and he gave her a B for that one, pretty cool if you ask me.

I wish people wouldn't drop. I dropped A&P first time I took it, because I wasn't willing to put in the time to study and my professor was tough, she weeded me out as well as at least half of the class. Everyone can pass it if you put the effort into it. A lot of it is memorization. Making notecards for every sentence in whatever chapter we were doing, and making notecards for every single thing I wrote from class helped me so much.

These science type classes you can't wait until the last minute to study for the test. It's so much easier on you if you study a little bit everyday.

Some people don't do well on certain types of test. Personally I am horrible at essay questions. Even though I know the material inside and out, I have trouble putting it correctly in an essay I will get an answer wrong because the teacher will nit pick my answer or because I made a poor choice of words so it didn't mean how I was thinking it. I had a teacher who was the exact opposite. She told me that when she was in school she was horrible with multiple choice and rather do essays. She almost didn't get into graduate school because she didn't do well on the GRE but if she was tested with essay questions she would ace the test.

I agree though with what many said, with science classes (and probably nursing classes, not in nursing school yet) you have to know the material well and not just memorize it. It's the only way you can critcally think your way through the questions.

A and P were what made or broke a person entering our nursing program---the instructor made sure it was tough as she could make it and all the time warned us if we could not handle her lectures (PAGES OF NOTES EACH CLASS that I got handcramps) and tests, then perhaps we ought to pick another major.

I hate to say it, but if one cannot make it thru A/P he/she will NOT make it thru nursing school, either. I don't mean to sound cold, but this is the cold hard truth.

The games you have to play to get by in nursing school..........the material is much tougher. A/P is like a mini prelude of what is to come. Buck up and hang tough......you will need to do this to get thru nursing school anyhow. Trust me on this.

Good luck!:)
