I think I will just tkae Intermediate Algebra and Nutrition this summer. Im smart but I dont think I want to risk taking Chem during the summer just in case! Ill just take it in the Fall.

I thought Chemistry was MUCH easier during the summer.... Got it over with.... I hate chemistry so the thought of having it for 16weeks made me sick, so the summer worked well, and it wasn't any harder...

I'm not surprised about the counselors at Rose giving bad advice. I've told many people don't rely on what they say. That is why I refuse to wait in line for an hour so they could confuse me, when I can enroll on line.

Seems like OU have so many pre-requisites that it seems impossible to finish in 2 years unless you took the maximum 18 credits per semester. I'm glad that I'm going straight for my ADN or it would probably take me 5 years to graduate with BSN. With my financial situation I couldn't wait that long to work. But you all are making me worry about Rose's nursing program because of the pass rate. Rose is so close to home that I have no intentions of trying to go anywhere else.

I forgot to tell you all about that one girl in my class claiming that a new graduate at Deaconess can make $25/hr. When I asked her about it again last week I found out that she has 10+ years experience as a EMT and CMA, so she can get a higher pay because of her experience. Which is irrelevant to my situation since I have absolutely no medical field experience.

Hi Vailgang- you live in Lawton and drive all the way to OKC to go to school? That's a long drive, I know because my parents and my cousin lives in Lawton. Why don't you go to Cameron? Or is it because they don't have any LPN-RN programs there? Keep in touch and let us know how OCCC is.

Vonda & Marilyn, thanks for the positive comments about my waiting for acceptance for nursing school. I'll definitely let you guys know as soon as I hear something. I sometimes worry that the mailman will put my letter in the wrong mailbox and I assume that I didn't get in when unknowingly did.

I know it, it is a lot of pre reqs Im still keeping my options open though and may end up applying to Rose in Janurary or something so my youngest will be a little but older, she is at that age right now (15 months) where I can barely study sometimes as it is no way would I make it through nursing school with her right now....lol. I'm not 100% sure about it all yet. Your idea about working part time as a nurse and finishing the pre reqs for BSN is still in the back of my mind.

I think it might be a good idea to go talk to some of the Rose state nursing people and maybe find out why there rate has dropped like that. I think you will do ok though but that is a good concern to have. Have you looked at OSU OKC or OCCC Nursing programs any? OSU accepts 60 students per semester I found out!!

Nurse2b thanks for your comment about chem in the summer, I have about a week to decide what to take exactly. I have heard from quite a few people that summer classes are easier...

    Cynthiann,

Don't worry yourself about the pass rate. Just inquire and keep your options open. You'll be fine, something will work out! Having said that, I have heard WONDERFUL things about Rose State's program. The LPN at my doctors office said she had so many friends go through Rose States nursing program and love it! She said when she goes for her RN that's where she's going!

Hey just wanted to let you guys know that OSU-OKC nursing program is having an open night sometime this month (I forgot sorry) I am planning on going with another girl from my class and see what all they have to say. apparently you can do there nursing classes part time. The girl in my anatomy class that attends there is taking her pre reqs at rose and she only goes to OSU OKC nursing program part time...I dont think Rose or any of the others offers that that I am aware of. Just thought you might want to check it out, and they did have a high pass rate.

I was checking out OSU-OKC website and I didn't know their program is an associate's. They go by the point system too, I wonder how many points is competitive there. I'll find out in May if I get accepted to Rose's program if not I have til June 1st to apply to OSU. If you find out when that open night thing is let me know, I might go too. I also looked at the OCCC website and their's was not as informative. I was trying to find out about their selection process and the deadlines but didn't see either.

I've been trying to decided what I should take for summer school. A lot of it depends on if I'm going to nursing school or not. If I don't get in I might take a class that will transfer for bachelor's. If I do get in, I'm thinking of taking Clinical Micro but I won't know until May and I'm scared the classes will fill up by then. Did you guys decided what you are definitely going to take this summer?

Oh, yeah, Marilyn, I asked that one guy in my class about taking nutrition on line (today was the first time I've seen him since before spring break) and he said that it was really easy especially since the teacher gives out study guides.

Well I dont think they are competitive as Rose. I know they accept 60 students per semester which helps. The girl in my class got into the program with 88 points and she said you have to take a test before as well but from what she was saying it didn't sound to hard (maybe like the compass or similar). I think Im going to check it out. Ill call or ask her abot the Open House and let you know.

Do you have to have intermidiate algrebra to take nutrition, since it is a science class, or do you have to only have that for Chemistry? I'm going to have to score higher on the Compass test to be able to take Intermidiate Algebra (I just DON'T remember all that algebra stuff from 10 years ago).

I'm going to try taking the math compass test again but I need a little more time to study so I can get a decent score this time. Otherwise, I'll be taking Intro to chemistry and nutrition online for summer definetly.

    Cynthiann,

Did the guy taking online nutrition tell you his teachers name? I want to make SURE I get in his class...LOL!

No Nutrition doesn't have any pre reqs at all. another girl in my class said she took it and its an easy A, she said you already know most of it. I know I am definatly taking Nutrition online but I am still trying to debate whether I should take Intro to Chem or Intermediate Algebra this summer.

I *think* the online Nutrition instructors name is Reynolds? I might be wrong, I think there is only one of them though.

I think I might go to the 5:30-7pm one as well but I would have to miss classes so Im not for sure yet.

Are you guys going to the medieval fair tomorrow and this weekend? Im going tomorrow. I love the food!

    Hi everyone,

I talked to the nurse director today at Rose State, Rebecca Ray. She is very nice, and very easy to talk to.

She said that this last class that graduated scored higher (she didn't say how much higher) than 90 percent (pass rate), because they had just gotten new updated info. She also told me that the beginning track only has about 20 people, but once you get into the nursing process 3 and 4 there are about 40 people in those classes. In addition, she said out of 40 people, usually 5 or 6 don't make it through. That's really cool. I'm definetly interested in applying to their program.

She asked where I work now, and am I considering getting certified to be a cna. She told me I will recieve 2 points because I work for the state health department .

I'd really love to talk to some of the girls in the advanced portion of the nursing program.

She told me to come back and talk to her when I'm ready to apply.

Cynthiann, maybe it wouldn't hurt for you to talk to her, so she can kinda put your face with your name. She's very sweet, and doesn't mind answering questions. She's in the Environmental health sciences building in room 204.

    Marilyn,

If you don't attend next Thursday, I'll post how it went and all the details.

My hubby and I will probably go to the medieval fair this weekend. I have to work tomorrow, and I don't get off until 5:00.

That is so great you found out more about the program there! I am thinking about becoming certified as a CNA this summer. I dont want to have to pay for it though, I have seen nursing homes with signs out saying they train for free so I think I will check into that in the next few weeks. Maybe I should go talk to the rose state nursing director and see if she knows what I should do.

I really want to go to the OSU open house but I hate to miss any of my anatomy classes, we just started on the nervous system. I cant tell you enough how much I am enjoying this class you guys! I just got my test back last night and made A's on both written and lab parts! Someone also told me that Micro is FUN and it is not hard. I cant wait to take that class, I hear nothing but good about it.

    Marilyn
