Hello! I have an essay for admission into a local community college ADN program that I'd love if ya'll could provide some feedback on. The prompt of the essay is as follows:

Describe why you wish to be considered for our Registered Nursing programs. Include any healthcare and/or pre-nursing experience and anything else you would like the Admission Committee to know about your desire to be a Registered Nurse.

Below is my essay:

I will not say I knew I wanted to be a nurse since I was a child because that was simply not the case. Growing up I've had to struggle through many life obstacles including being in foster care as well as losing a child. The outstanding compassionate and empathetic care I received from nurses during the loss of my child sparked an interest in me to consider nursing as a potential career. Having no previous medical experience, I considered volunteering at my local hospital to get both a closer look into the health care field as well as give my time to help others. I've had the pleasure of volunteering at California Hospital Medical Center and Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Both experiences allowed me to gain a little more insight into the world of nursing and strengthened my career choice and my passion for nursing. I now see nurses as not just caregivers, but also as advocates and role models for their patients and communities. I am currently employed as a Medical Assistant, and although my scope of practice is very limited and in no way comparable to that of an RN, it has allowed me to interact with patients and develop better communication skills as well as has provided me with more knowledge of the health care field.

I am aware that the career I have chosen is both emotionally and physically draining, and often does not get the credit it is due, but I have witnessed first-hand the tremendous impact nurses have on individual's lives at hospitals I have volunteered and through personal experiences. Nurses are at the forefront of patient care every day and selflessly give care to the best of their abilities. There is nothing I want more than to join their ranks in offering excellent care. As a nurse, I'd seek opportunities to help me better myself and grow professionally. My goal is to gain experience at a hospital and then seek an opportunity that will allow me to utilize this experience to provide medical care to underrepresented rural areas with minimal to no access to quality preventive care. Getting accepted into the (insert school name here) Registered Nursing program will allow me to embark on this challenging yet rewarding career path and will provide me with the necessary training needed to be a successful nurse and fulfill my goals.
