Hello all!

I am writing to ask a quick question.

I am 1/2 way through my Associates, the rest of the classes will all be Nursing/Medical related. I'm really excited to be going through this time in my life! :)

Now, let me get this straight, I am not going into this profession/field for just $$, don't get me wrong. However, I am curious about a few things regarding that awful $$ symbol.

Nurses have plenty of specializations that can end up making good money and less stress/litigation issues than doctors.

Doctors can make more but have much more drama and quite possibly patients calling you non-stop every night ;)

I have heard that Radiologists can make $400k/year?!

I thought the only 'big hitters' in the Medical Industry were E.R. Surgeons and Doctors.

Just curious what you all have to say :)

At the end of the day, if I can make $65k, that'd be a dream! Anything higher would be just great. (As a Nurse)

Sorry if this post seems....rude or not quite right. I'm just curious. I have $150k in student loans from my first round of school (not Medical) and I am going to pay as I go for the classes to get me my ADN/RN status. Then I'll pay again as I go OR find a program that will pay for RN --> BSN with promise to stay in the area for X years.

I've decided - this post was awful.

Also decided that I just finish my schooling, pass the NCLEX/become an RN and then just learn everything I can and find out where I am meant to fit in :)

So what is your actual question?

Yes there is potential to be financially lucrative in nursing.

Have you looked at taking a job with a VA? They generally have some pretty good educational finance programs for their nurses.

southshore2014: A Veteran Affairs nurse? Now that would be a totally worthy cause for a Nurse :) They definitely deserve all the care that they can get!

ICUman: I got off on the wrong foot here at allnurses.com. I was thinking in the wrong state of mind. My actual questions have been answered by an additional 10 hours of research on this website and others, phone calls with Nurses and Doctors I know.

I'm going to go Volunteer at my local hospital in as many areas as I can; I think 6-12 months and a few departments would give me enough exposure for me to say, "Yes I want to be a Nurse!" or "This isn't for me".
