Nurse intern interview

I'm interviewing for a nurse intern position at a local hospital this week, and I have a question for those of you who've done this. The position is really a glorified nursing assistant job but I really want to get it because it would be my first real opportunity to work in healthcare and it's gonna look good on my resume when I finish my degree program next year. The recruiter told me I'll have to do a nursing test as a part of the screening and I tried to get more info from her about what will be on the test but all she would say is that its just basic nursing stuff. She claims that if I've completed a year of nursing school I should ace it but I'm thinking I may not test very well since I have no idea what to review and the anxiety is driving me nuts.

Does anyone know whether these test questions are basic fundamentals or if they're more about med-surg? This facility has a lot of elderly patients and I'm hoping there won't be any questions on orthopedics or neurology on the test because I haven't completed that rotation yet and there's a lot that I don't know.

Specializes in NICU.

I've never interviewed for a nurse intern position, so I don't have any experience to go by. But if it's a nursing assistant position I would think the test will be over basic nursing knowledge..... safety, basic care needs, therapeutic communication, etc. I wouldn't think it would go into med-surg details. If she says that you'd ace the test if you have a year of nursing school, I'd take her word for it! She knows what's on the test, I'd give her the benefit of the doubt.

Good luck with the interview!

I imagine the test will have questions like what is the normal ranges for vital signs, how do you safely transfer a pt from the bed to a wheelchair, what does contact isolation mean and other things that a CNA should know. I don't think there will be any complicated med/surg questions, just basic pt care stuff.

Good luck!
