I belong to a book club that owes me a book and I cannot decide which would be the most beneficial to me. I am just starting my ADN program this fall. Please, please, please help me decide!

Here are the options I am considering:

Pharmacology Made Easy for NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-RN practice test and review (2 book set)

Med-Surg. Nursing Made Incredibly Easy (CD-ROM with booklet)

Nursing Plans and Procedures (includes Nursing Care Plans and Documentation, Lippincott's interactive care plan creator, nursing procedures CD-ROM the interactive guide to better clinical skills) I have an old care plan textbook but I don't think it would be of much use now?

Nutrition Necessities which includes Healing Nutrition, Health Promotion in nursing and Burgerstein's handbook of nutrition

Do any of these options seem good? which one? Or should I be focusing on another area? maybe Pharmacology?

Go to your local library and browse a bit. See if you can find the above titles and if you do, flip through the pages or read a chapter or two. You might find all of them to be a little dry and it might be best to just wait until you actually take the class to learn things there. After all, that's what classes are for. :)

Good luck choosing! It sounds fun!

Agree with the above.

You can alway use a good pharmacology book, even though I had very little, if ANY med calculations, and only very few pharm questions on NCLEX. Things might have changed a bit though the past two years.

Also, dearest Kim, I have the MedSurge made Incred. Easy witht eh CD... if at any point you feel you could use it in your program or studies, let me know.. you're welcome to use it.. I'll send it on up to you, ok?

You might want to find out just which books your program REQUIRES first. Let me know what you might need and I'll see if I can help you out... will save you some $$ in one area, anyway. I know you'll take the best of care with the books... I've saved all of mine. (((HUGS)))

I would get the pharm book because your required textbook will cover the other stuff. Also, pharm is memorization and this book has hints on how to remember the drugs, their classifications, etc.

Thanks,

Specializes in Critical Care (ICU/CCU).

I really liked the "Made Incredibly Easy" series...it helped me get through Mental Health Nursing in the spring...my school required I have a pharmacology book and a care plan book...but I did buy a different care plan book that came in handy. I think whatever you pick will be useful.
