Need help....I cant decide

I need some help on what to do. I have been trying to decide for the past 2 weeks and I can't seem to come to a decision

A little back story I was in a LPN program at a proprietary/tech school here I was almost 1/2 way through and my little sister was killed in a car accident and I went back home to be with my family. When I came back home there was a big mess with the school I was at(pretty much they wanted to raise my tuition almost 7k and they lost their DON and several other things). I was not emotionally ready to go back yet....which ended up to be a smart decision because the trail for the person that was charged in killing my sister put me and my family through a emotional roller coaster and I would't of been able to do both.

Well I am ready to go back and I have 2 options. I decided I am NOT going to go back to the trade/tech school because it is just too much $$$ & when I go back for my RN I would have to go back and do all my prereqs any way. Also they aren't regionally accredited.

So I have 2 options!

  • I am able to do all my prereqs for a LPN program in the Fall session at the CC I am going too. I would be able to apply to a local program where I have a 'chance' to get into for 2010. If not I would defiantly get in 2011

  • I am able to do all my prereqs for ADN program by Spring session allowing me to also apply in 2010. It would be cutting it close because I would be completeing them all right before the application would be due for the ADN programs.
    If I am willing to relocate outside of where I live(2-3hrs) there is very little/if no wait list

  • The last option would be a program that is about 2hrs away from me that has a sort of unqiue program in that everyone has to start at the LPN level and then you go into the RN program so I guess it is a 1+1 program. I would do the prereqs for the LPN program and then apply for the RN program....which from what was told is not a problem if you apply and have the stuff you get in if you did the LPN program there. The only issues I see with this is getting the prereqs done while I was in the LPN section. I guess I could probably complete them during that summer but it does worry me

I really need help:uhoh3: I am at a complete lost I need to registar for my classes and am hoping to do it this weekend but I feel like I am stuck!

Here is the prereqs

LPN(All taken in the Fall)

  • ENG 121 English Composition
  • BIO 106 Basic Anatomy and Physiology or BIO 201 & 202
  • HPR 108 Nutrition

RN

  • ENG 121 English Composition I would take this in the fall
  • PSY 235 Human Growth and Development I would take this in the fall
  • BIO 201 Anatomy and Physiology I I would take this in the fall
  • BIO 202 Anatomy and Physiology II I would take this in the spring
  • BIO 204 Microbiology I would take this in the spring

Any and all advice is more then welcomed:yeah:Even more so if you have any different ideas for a scedule!

Geez, you have some decisions to make, no?

How would you feel having to travel total of 4 hours/day to attend classes?

I am a wee bit confused: you would, if you get accepted into the RN program, have to take ENG, PSY and BIO all at the same time? Heavy schedule...

But then again, if you do the LPN route, you could sit for the LPN boards, pass them and hopefully find some employment to make some $$ so that you could continue on, if you so desire, to obtain your RN.

You are wise to make sure the program you apply to is accredited.

Oh no :lol2:I would be relocating there is no way I could drive that every day there is a girl I know that does commute up that way for their PT program(all weekend and 2 nights a week) but I honestly dont think I could do that. The driving would just be too much for me.

I have thought about the $$ issue with making some in between I am just worried about getting caught up and not going back to school b/c I am working ect.

True (about how some people keep putting off going back to school)

I will have to check but I believe there are some programs out there for LPN's --> RN that are on-line.

IF I find the web site I will post

If your goal and/or dream is to obtain your RN then, even if it takes some time, you will get there....Maybe not on the time-frame you wanted....

I remember looking at that program in Indiana a while back ago and it seems like a really great idea. I know I was sort of confused if it was a BSN or a RN-BSN.

I almost wish I didn't have all these choices :( but in many ways I do really feel lucky to not HAVE to do one. Its nice to have choices even if it is becoming impossible for me to choose

Ditch the LPN idea.

Even though I whole-heartedly respect Athena's opinion, i respectfully disagree.

Developmental psychology is a joke class. Same with english comp. I think that those three classes are in no way too big of a load for a full time student.

Here is a helpful hint for your Anatomy section. Take a digital camera to class. Use it to take pictures of the models in your lab, so that you know what you will be looking at when it comes to the lab practicum. That was the easiest way for me to study my anatomy.

Good luck in your decision!

Oh another word of advice... see if you can room with one of your future nursing classmates, so that you can have a study partner at home!

I never even thought about bringing a camera to class! That is a great idea even more so b/c I am a visual person and those pics in books are just never that good.
