Nursing Students General Students

Published

I'm currently looking for a accelerated online BSN program. I currently have a bachelors in science and want to get my RN. I need to find an online program to enroll into. I do not currently hold any RN licensure like some want as a pre-req. Just looking for suggestions what y'all have to what's a good program to enroll in. Looking to do this in the next 6 months so I can get this started.

Thanks for the help!

Your problem is that any program designed for people without nursing licenses will require clinical practicums -- and you can't do a clinical practicum online. With only a few exceptions, the online programs are designed for people who already have an RN license and who want to upgrade the academic preparation with Bachelor's level classroom work.

There have been a few schools that have arranged partnerships with some hospitals to do clinical practicums for their online pre-licensure students. Those programs are controversial and usually available only in limited areas. You might want to check out Western Governor's University, Indiana State University, and Excelsior. Those are the only 3 programs I have heard of -- and I don't know if they are still offering the online BSN for people who don't already have a license.

I did an accelerated butt-in-seat program and was miserable. This may not be what you want to hear but if you really want this try to find a nursing school that lets you jump in at year three of the four year program. Failing that, get some kind of ancillary certification (like CNA) and try to work in a hospital so you'll have a better understanding of the pace and flow. Good luck.

What you are looking for does not exist. Pre-liscensure education requires hands-on lab and clinical learning, thus there is NO 100% online program for RN training. There are a very, very few programs that offer theory courses online and clinicals in person. I do not know if these programs are accelerated or not. My guess is not because they are likely aimed at working students who require the flexibility offered by hybrid learning.

Indiana State does not offer an online Pre-licensure BSN. They offer an online LPN-BSN in certain states.

Northeastern University in Charlotte, NC has a hybrid accelerated BSN.

You would still need to move to Charlotte, NC, but they have 3 start times throughout the year. I'm in an accelerated nursing program now, and I couldn't imagine doing any of the coursework online. Good luck on your search.

Emory also plans to create the type of program you are looking for, but it does not exist. Keep in mind that a distance learning nursing program for pre-license students will have many disadvantages.

*I do not attend this university. I found it in my research.*

There aren't any online bsn programs but there are online rn-bsn programs but only if you hold an ASN license.
