My orientation

I went to my ADN orientation last Tues and Wed. and I am still feeling the excitment from all the information. The first day, starting at 8:00, we were given forms to fill out and a list of rules and regulations. The first woman who spoke really impressed me with her ability to strike the fear of God into people with just a single look. She seems fair and follows all rules without exception; which is something I really respect in a person. The second lady has her doctoral degree and she is there to guide students concerning poor test grades, anxiety, or help with time management. I was happy about getting this type of support. In fact, they were not negative about the program, not one person said the standard...........take a look around because half of you will not make it through! I was excited about being there but as I looked around some people were actually sleeping! Can you believe it? The second day the orientation was more relaxed. We got more detailed information on test taking, fitted for uniforms, and met current students.

Our unifroms are all blue with white lab coat, not the all white unifroms they have gone with for the last billion years. :D The current students also seemed helpful, not shell-shocked like I was expecting.

I then bought 4 of my 8 books needed for two classes and I have been reading every since. Well, I say I'm ready, I wonder if I will feel the same way after Jan 12.th!

when and if the time comes when you feel overwhelmed, remember your excitement you are feeling now and let it be one of your motivators to keep you pushing forward.

enjoy your experience and all the best to you.

One BIG thing that helped me to not get overwhelmed is to keep up with the reading. Procrastination will be your biggest enemy in nursing school. Especially when you see that your first exam has 50 questions over 15-20 chapters. Read and pay attention to the lectures and you should do well. Good luck!! :kiss

Yep, I agree---never forget the excitement & enthusiasm you are feeling right now. It's hard to believe that it's been over a year since I received my acceptance letter & went through orientation. Time does fly! There will be times that you will be mentally & emotionally tested, I look back & remember the days that I couldn't wait to start. Of course now, I can't wait to finish...lol, but that's because I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Woo hoo!

Sounds like you have some decent uniforms. Although I've grown accustomed to the all white that we wear, it gets old. Now that I'm going into 3rd semester (Ob/Peds), we get to wear whatever we want & it feels strange buying something that isn't white. :p

It's great that you are already starting to read. You do have a lot of material to cover in class & that time seems so limited with all of the other things to be learned, but you'll make it. Start learning the prefixes or medical words if your book has them in there. Like prn, ac, pc, qd, bid, tid, etc. You'll see those a lot in the charts when you start clinicals.

Best of luck to you!
