My husbands surgery

My husband got hit under the eye at work almost two weeks ago........he went to the hospital and they did quite a few xrays and told him nothing was broken. In the next few days, his teeth hurt, half his face was numb and he couldn't feel his lips. He went to the dentist who told him nothing was wrong.....then to a plastic surgeoon who specializes in nerve damage and an eye doctor. He had surgery on Monday morning and it was determined that the orbital was shattered and all the fragments were around the nerve, which was causing the numbness. They had to rebuild the orbital with surgical plastic and clean out all of the fragments. The whole point of this story is that before I started thinking about being a nurse I could not stand to watch needles and such......I realized the difference in the way I reacted to things at the hospital. I watched the nurse put in the IV and everything...........it was neat(only someone wanting to be a nurse would think that, lol). I hope that being through this with my husband and my father-in-laws open heart surgery will help me to be a better nurse......more caring to family members.......Just wanted to share.........

They couldn't tell his orbital was fractured from the xrays???????

Hope that is a small hospital....

Glad to hear that all is well now...

How wonderful for you to have the experience, and to really know that nursing is the job for you....

Take care.

HEY!

Poor care is not exclusive to small hospitals.

What I meant was that maybe he would get BETTER care in a small hospital.

Don't BITE my head off.

You always this touchy???

It was a small hospital, but the specialist pointed out that it was hard to see(don't know how) anyway......thanks

robin,

i am so sorry that your husband had to go throught that, but i am glad he is doing better! :)

Thanks, but the sad thing is......I know he is hurting and I try to do for him.....all that is on my mind though is the two days of classes I missed and all I have to do to catch up before finals......I feel so selfish. Awful isn't it?
