My first 2 days of school...

I promised Truly Blessed that I would share what my first day of school was like, so here goes. I am part time, btw, so my day isn't going to look quite like the full timers day. :)

Sorry that it took me so long to type this out .. I've been sleep deprived because I was so nervous the first night I couldn't sleep a wink. Then, the next night, my 2 year old decided to wake up in the middle of the night and STAY AWAKE for a while. I was sooo tired and had so much reading to do.

My first day of class was a bit on the boring side at first. We had to pick up all our books. We brought suitcases and put them in and then took them to our cars. We kept out our Anatomy and Physiology book, and our pathology book. Then the nursing director took us through the LPN student handbook AND the entire school handbook. Then the guidance counselor talked to us for a while. Apparently, this is a very tough course and she wants us to come to her if/ when we are having a rough time. Everyone seemed very encouraging. There was no speech about half of us dropping the course or anything like that. They said they wanted to see ALL of us make it.

After lunch we finally got to meet our A&P/ micro/nutrition teacher. Mrs. A. Mrs. A loves to show short segments of movies to back up what she lectures on, so it seemed that every hour we had to watch a short movie (5 minutes or so). Which would be fine if I wasn't so doggone tired! laugh.gif We also have done several fun little experiments and activities that have made it interesting.

We got introduced to some pretty neat stuff and I was really excited to come home and start my reading. Except that once I got home, my children wanted my attention. I spent some time with them until after supper, then started to dig in. Didn't work! Too much noise! I moved. Didn't work! They followed! I finally had to wait until after 9 pm to do my studies. eek.gif I was up until 12:30 am, and back up with Caleb at 4 am. I'm sure we will figure something out.

I have a test next week plus I have to read ahead for Micro. I looked at my syllabus and it looks like I'm being tested about once a week. That's good. I have been reading that some of the full time students are having several tests per day. So far, I'm enjoying this. I hope this was helpful to someone! :p

Ok, that's all my exhausted, slightly brain-fried self can think of at the moment.

Lisa...it sounds like your program is interesting. As far as the study time...I am going to have to either leave the house to go to the library or stay up half the night (or both). You might want to try to go somewhere, even though it will detract from time with the kids. You are in the LPN program? How long will it take you, going part time?

Lisa - just curious, are you working on your pre-reqs or on a nursing program?

Yes, I'm in the LPN program. :) I plan on getting out of the house as often as I can to study, but my husband is gone 4 evenings a week at his part time job. We'll have to get into some routine :)

I'm in an LPN program. We take the sciences as part of the nursing program. :) It's a one year program if you go full time. Since I'm going part time, it will take me 2 years to complete the program.

Hello, hello, dear lady! Well, good to hear that you started school! Even though it's part time, still sounds like you'll be pretty busy. You did get lucky: only one major test a week! Sounds good to me! Keep us posted on how it's going.

Lisa,

Sounds like you had a challenging first couple of days. I hope you work out a study schedule that benefits you. Congrats again!!!
